You're probably right, I initially bought them because the price was dirt cheap for a kit in this condition and my intention was to flip and make a few bucks. But, then after seeing the kit for the first time in person I started having second thoughts. This kit is in near mint condition, all drums are dated November, 1965 and other than the wing screws on the floor tom legs, is all original.

The only draw back I have is the hardware, I was never a big fan of Slingerland hardware. So, for that reason alone, I may still sell them for the right price.

That is the twin of my 1963 Shelly Manne 13-16-20 Leedy set. It also came with the 5x14 matching BDP Shelly Manne snare drum. All of the drums came to me with drum heads bearing the dealer stamp for Henry Adler's shop in New York City. If I was forced to keep only one drum set, and sell off all of the others, this would be my keeper. This is the most pristine vintage set of drums to ever be in my possession.

That's a nice kit, I don't think I've ever had a kit as nice as this one.

Let's not spread the word about how great SlingerLeedy drums are. We don't want too many of those Luddy huggers and Gretsch Geeks fouling the water for us Slingy snobs and Leedy lovers. I hope that you decide to hang on to that beautiful drum set.

Bob: As I stated earlier, these 1963 SlingerLeedy BDP drums in this configuration of 13-16-20 with matching Shelly Manne snare drum are the finest vintage drums I've ever owned. And, I've had a few dozen sets of vintage drums since I began collecting about a dozen years ago. I think that this particular set of drums is nicer than all of the vintage drums I owned back when those drums were brand new. I always went back to Slingerland after gigging with Rogers, Gretsch, Camco, and Flat Jacks. "Slingy Land" was my comfort zone. It's a funny thing that I was only slightly aware of the Leedy brand of drum hardware even though I was born and raised in the Indiana suburbs of Chicago where I gigged for many years. I lived within an easy commute of Chicago, Niles, and Elkhart, and two hours from Indianapolis. Why did I not know about the wonderful SlingerLeedy drums of the 60's? Apparently, none of the music stores I patronized in Indiana and Illinois carried that brand.
