Why was that original thread removed? Did people start arguing or are the mods cracking down on that tompeter bot account that started the thread?

WOW! I didn't notice the crooked seam/poor wrap job the first time I looked at this kit. I just saw it was a re-wrap with Granitone shells, so I moved on pretty quick.

I think if this was on another seller's page, related to "Bonham" "gear," it would probably be a couple thousand more!

I acquired the 8x12, 14x14, and 14x20 late 1960's--well before the bicentennial year of 1776--drums from a guy that had them sitting out on a screen porch for who knows how long. They were very dirty. Under the dirt the blue and red glass glitter bands of wrap were in great shape. The white bands of wrap were the short-lived white sparkle that was delaminated with big brown splotches between the clear top ply and the white bottom play. It was an easy decision to remove the nasty white bands of wrap and replace them with new wrap. Even if that horrible white sparkle had not been discontinued years ago, I would not have chosen it. So, I ordered the closest thing that Precision had to the vintage WMP on my old Radio King 4x13 snare drum. They sent it to me pre-cut to size. True to the multi-band wraps of the 1960's, there are little spaces between the bands where the shell shows through. Here are some pictures of the finished project.

leedybdp, in the name of accuracy your red, white and blue Slingerlands are from the early 70's not the 60's.

I've run the serial numbers several times. The results are always that they are from well before the bicentennial year of 1976. The serial numbers can be from 1966 through 1969 give or take a year or two. Since I don't plan to sell them, I'm OK with this general assessment.

8x12.........#19851 (1966-1968)

14x14.......#19877 (1966-1968)

14x20.......#23564 (1968-1969)

With all due respect that is NOT correct. The badges on your drums are black/silver and did not appear until 1970. Please check the badge link. Your badge is the second from the left on the bottom. Also note the very different script used on pre 70's badges. Yours is the 70 and later script.

As to the serial numbers please look carefully at the graph in the link and pay attention to the fact that your serials are only 5 digits and relatively low. 5-digit serials in your range were only used twice by Slingerland. First in the early 60's (1963) and again in the early 70's (late '70-'71 expected). Furthermore, '67-'69 serials are 6-digits not 5.

Your drums are early 70's. While you may be OK with your "general" assessment, you (especially as a longtime member) may actually be doing a dis-service to everyone who uses this forum to glean more knowledge.
