No fire truck bell on this one, but that's pretty typical for most of the old stamps. That fire dept. thing came around with starting with the intermediates and on into the new stamps.

Are we sure that's a K. Joe? Looks for all the world like an old A to me.

But if it truly is a K. then this one's got me stumped.

I agree. Nothing about it looks particularly old K like in my less than expert opinion. The bell looks more A like with a possibly slightly flat top I've seen on a few of the A's we've owned. And while it's not a very clear picture, the general look of the cymbal doesn't show any latheing or hammering that would make me think it's a K.

JDA, is there some reference somewhere that refers to this cymbal as a old K? Any possibility it's an EAK? I'm not familiar with EAK's, did they look more A like? Maybe that was meant by any old K reference to this cymbal.

"Steve sent me a bunch of his old cymbals, including the K ride, when him and Carol were moving from Rochester to Phoenix. I kept them in my office for safekeeping. I'm sure Paul F weighed it, but I don't recall the gram weight, but suffice it to say it was on the lighter side. And even with a big chunk taken out of it, it still had that tone you associate with Steve's cymbal sound. And I'll say it again... he didn't get that sound from 21" A Rock Ride"

"These pics were taken in my office in July 2010 during a visit. I had his cymbals in my office and he wanted to check them out. After I left Zildjian in 2013, Steve had his old cymbals returned to him in Phoenix. I think they have one or two at Zildjian as part of their museum, but ironically, they're Istanbul Ks. But the cymbal in the photo is the Ride that's on pretty much everything he recorded until the early 90s. "

Colleen brought a bag of Tony's cymbals to Mehmet. A bag that was from the later last days of Miles. (right. we all know this. If you don't research TW Tribute cymbals Mehmet)

So all the time those cymbals were being analized and looked over by Mehmet's team...

I notice people that work at the factories- work with cymbals all day every day long- miss some obvious- to them "it was an old K ". Well. What era was it? errr i dunno.

Probably similar to what happened here. In the excitement of the moment having 10 or 12 cymbals to pick and pic from - one could have been mistaken for another. That's ok.

I don't think that cymbal is cut down, those things are never round. It looks made as you see it.
