Yes, if they made 3ply back then (I'm not experienced enough on this)? Then it does look like 3ply. Poplar in the middle? I can't say for sure, but mahogany on the outer plys, Yes!

Still looking for any more info..... pics of Slingerland marching drums...catalog pages etc. etc. Thanks all...

Happy to help, but the question is extremely broad. Perhaps you could start by posting pics of the drum you want to restore. That would let us know what decade it's from and its current condition. Then if you add specific questions about the particular drum, there may be more headway.

The broadness of the question is pointing to the fact that I have almost no knowledge about Slingerland marching drums, and have exhausted the resources that I already know about in my search for more information. If anyone has a catalog scan or a picture of their own drum and know the particulars about it, then please pass it along. Ludwig-dude sent a link to some catalogs, a great help, and now there they are for anyone else to use as well. If there are some owners of Slingerland marching snares out there, and would like to pass on some info, I would appreciate it, and anyone else that cares to learn a little more about the subject might appreciate it as well.

Thanks all!!!

To repeat: Slingerland made marching snares for more than 50 years. The drums of the '30s are completely different than those of the '50s, likewise for '60s and '70s. What era are you trying to refurb to? And what are the problems your drum presents? As asked, your question is analogous to "I have a Chrysler...anyone want to share what they know about Chryslers?"

I would just like to learn from you guys/gals a little about what you know about Slingerland marching drums.

Tubelugs, perhaps you can just share something about a drum you own if you would?

Perhaps I should just ask:

If you own a Slingerland marching drum, would you post a picture if possible and share what you know about your drum?

Maybe that would be easier, and there won't be too many duplicates that way.

Sorry if there was any confusion.

Thanks

Kevins – Here are a few photos of my vintage 1960s 12x16 Slingerland marching snare, that I forgot I had taken during restoration. It was apparently stored for a long time in direct sunlight (Ouch!). The finished restoration photo shows it without heads, and the hoops are just set in place over the rod ends. One of the photos shows the original color under where the strainer had been attached.

Thanks 510, it turned out nice.

Did you use a pigment infused lacquer, or stain and then coat with clear lacquer?

Kevins - Sorry for not answering promptly! I missed your post here.

I just stripped it and stained it with Minwax brand mahogany stain. Then finished with a few light coats of clear auto laquer. Now it matches my kit (all marching drums), so I might use it as a FT if needed.
