Made it to the room. Here's a few shots of the drum. It's a 15 incher. I still can't decide what to do with it. I'm thinking of using it as a cool tom on a Jazz kit or an aux tom on my Luddy gold sparkle.

Cool drum... if it goes to the luddy kit, it could be reverted back to a marching snare as well. A Double Agent, if you will.

I always dig checking out and comparing the prices in the older catalogs. Some of the top-o-line marching drums sold for more than the top-o-line conventional snares.

Well, I'm by no means any expert on this, but both strainers existed in the thirties, no doubt about that. I have attached images from the 1936 and 1940 catalogue and you can see the two different strainers. The "Eagle emblem" on mine is listed as an option. There is no mention of the different strainers. One possibility is that mine is a different model from yours. I went through the catalogues again and found out that the "Legion Heir" series was offered with or without "centre supports". All the pictures of these drums have the new strainer, so it might be that my drum actually is a "Legion Heir Parade Drum" without "Centre supports". One more thing to back this up is that mine have a "drum key" holder as well, which also matches the catalogue pictures. Here's a quote from Rob Cooks Slingerland book about the strainer on your drum:672 POST STRAINER"....This strainer was sold on all parade drums in 1928. From 1934 on it was sold only on the lower-priced parade drums. This strainer was discontinued in the early '40's (wartime)"

Thanks again Havard and David too, for posting the catalogs. Looking at the catalog scans I’ve noticed a couple of things on my cloud badge drum, as seen on this thread. The strap hook on the hoop is like the one in the 1928 catalog. It looks like in the 1936 & 1940 catalogs that the strap hook has been changed to add a mounting bracket. The second thing I noticed is the badge on mine is in line with the strainer and on all the catalog photos the badge is to the side of the strainer (If mine is a Boy Scout/model 614, I think it probably is). Again, the more answers we get the more questions are raised!

Thank you all!

I did more work on the Slingerland Snare Drum page - cleaned it up, added more scans and realized I'm missing two catalogs so I need to work on it more.

I also added all of the catalog covers to the page for each catalog.

This is just an update and link at the end of this post.
