A shout out to the guy in my area who has been trying to sell his drum set on Craigslist for the past 2 or 3 years. Started out at ~$1200, stayed that way for 2 years, he finally slowly dropped it down to $850 and then recently brought it back up to $1150 to stay.

But still no. Then there's the sellers who advertise " Genuine, original, vintage, "Ludwig" logo hard shell drum cases. The ONLY thing Ludwig is the sticker!!!. Don't even get me started on Non-Bonham sized Paiste 2002's advertised as such!!!! :(,

Is that the red swirl Walberg & Auge set in NYC? The seller is a nice guy, but he did exactly what you said; dropped the price around Christmas and then bumped them back up. I've talked to him several times. I asked him why he did that. He said, he realized they were worth $1150. I said, if they didn't sell for $850, what makes you think you can now get $300 more? He had no answer to that. I just think he really doesn't want to sell them that badly. They were owned by his drum teacher originally, so I guess he has a sentimental attachment to them. But yes, they've been up on CL for 2-3 years. You'd think he'd get the hint. W&A stuff is largely unknown to the average drummer, IMO.

I am constantly amazed at the asking prices of vintage drums lately. It's very disturbing. I also see prices on certain sets dropping like flies after 2-3 months on Reverb or Ebay with no takers. A few sets I saw the other night had dropped a full 50% or more. All I can figure is, there are a LOT of ill-informed delusional sellers out there who don't realize what a buyer's market this is. Either that, or they need to stop smoking crack.

How about that thread that's up on the board about the Pearl set currently listed for $2000? That seller is a flaming idiot. I emailed him and never got a response. He'll eventually wise up. Maybe not, but that's his problem.

I was eyeing up a Blue Agate Slingerland set a while back from a dealer in Florida. The BD had some finish issues. He was asking $999 plus shipping. I offered what I was willing to pay and he countered with $900 shipped, which I declined. They're still up there on Reverb. He never contacted me again, so I guess he was at his limit. Some deals just don't happen.

I just scored a five piece Red Tiger Pearl Slingerland set in great shape from a nice guy in Connecticut for $900. He even drove 90 minutes to meet me halfway. Those are the deals I seek and go for. They're still out there.

The bottom line is, buy wisely. Look for the best deals on the best quality drums you can find.

There was a guy in Arkansas who added a Trick throw-off to a Keystone 14x10 marching snare and he wanted $800 for it. He dropped his price to $600 after a few months then raised it to $700. I haven't seen it listed in a long time, so I hope he was shamed out of listing it and that no one bought it.

There are lots of sellers who, unfortunately, never feel shamed about what they sell. They just keep posting the same overpriced items for months, or even years, in the hope that some unsuspecting person will pull the trigger!

I've messaged them, politely, to let them know EXACTLY what they have and what it's worth. Do you think they care? Absolutely not! What they have changed is the addition of "Made in Japan". Still why even state it's a ROGERS snare drum? I just messaged them again about this, politely mind you! I do mention that only the "clock-face" strainer is Rogers. As before, I don't expect a reply!

Just had a look at the snare drum. These sellers are crack pots.Ive just had a go at counterhoop on ebay for advertising a knocked up bass drum damper and trying to pass it off as a premier. I told him it was a poor homemade pile of crap and the only premier part was adjusting knob. I told him his prices are an embarrasment. He now advertises the damper as a homemade damper with premier adjust know. I actually written to ebay to state that he was mis advertising the damper. Ive not seen much of his items before this point was made and the stripping that guy does is ridiculous and the prices. As ive said counterhopp is a joke. I will keep watching that crook. One last point go and have a look at his premier royal ace wires that is another point i will be raising with the crook. Have a look at my damper for sale on ebay for £40 and these are very rare plus mine are always top grade. His is actually a higher price than mine as is now advertised as homemade. Bit like granny baking a homemade pie.

Yes, of course. He bought them from his former drum teacher, who ordered everything special from W&A. As I said, I think the seller has a sentimental attachment to these drums and is in no rush to let them go. He's a nice guy and we've discussed the drums repeatedly via email. I can't figure out why he does what he does, but that's his thing. His view is, they're worth X amount of money, and until I get X amount, they're not going anywhere. At one point, I was interested in the drums, but have gotten past it by now.

There was also a guy in PA who was selling a very nice sky blue pearl five piece Ludwig set for a long time on CL. He dropped his price at Christmas also and then bumped it back up in January. I don't see them for sale anymore, so maybe he finally got his price. Or maybe he just gave up.

Yep! The guy wearing the flat cap in a picture of him playing it on a baseball field at maybe a Phillies game or minor league game? Was in a Klezmer band if I remember correctly.

I should say, I have nothing against the W&A guy, I just find it hilarious getting the Craigslist email daily with that ad in it, for years now. I wish he still had the story up with it.

Now, were you the one who was able to pick up that Ludwig 60s silver sparkle frankenkit that someone listed for $45 a few weeks back in I think Hackensack? I got to that ad about an hour after it was posted and the guy had already had a bite.

More importantly, there's a central NJ craigslist ad that was posted maybe 4-5 years ago that I wish I had screenshotted at 3am one night. I wonder if you saw it too (just so I can confirm I wasn't hallucinating). It was someone selling a super 80s looking drumset, I think blue, with tons and tons of toms, multiple bass drums, tons of cymbals for like $10,000. The highlights of the ad were the pictures of this monstrosity of a drum set, set up on it's rack with the guy's 10 ft long python just chilling across all of it. The ad ended with something like "Also selling 2004 BMW" I got a good chuckle out of that.
