All the parts are original, except the the top head.

The snare wires are loose. I have to replace them.

The wood inside is like brand new. It smells like it came out of the factory. Bearing edges are fine.

Some rust to remove, the wrap will be cleaned and polished, all parts will be cleaned and buffed.

This will be funny to clean.

What are you thinking of using to clean up the wrap?

I cleaned it with a cloth, did wet sanding and then Novus 3,2,1. Actually I started with novus to keep the aged yellowish finish, but the wrap had a sort of damaged texture and it was not uniform. It didn't look good to me. I decided to go a step back and start with wet sandind, using a 1200 grit.

Now it is white, almost the same color as under the lug, and has a glossy finish.

Ah, right, look forward to seeing it. Never wet sanded anything myself and interested to see what the finish will look like!

Nice snare drum. You seem to be doing a great job. You could even go down the route with die cast premier hoops. The 14x10 do make a great sounding kit snare. I just recently picked up a ludwig marcher which ive displayed in drum gallery. Even thinking of putting it with my kit. Its a 12 lugger 14x12 and is loud....All the best....sean

The diecast hoops might be an interesting experience.

What type of tunning do you use with your snare?

If it were marching purposes you normally go tight on both heads. If its for kit then id go tight snare head then batter head tune up to desired pitch which would be lower than a marcher pitch. The ludwig i picked up has 12 tuners which gives it a good range high or low.

I will try to use it with fingertight +1/2 turn in top head, with a double ply clear head and heavy muffling, to get that 80s fat sound. I will try a Aquarian performance 2 and a Remo pinstripe. I think a 42 strand snarewires might work.

I want to achieve that 80s ballad sound like Scorpions, Whitesnake, etc. A gate reverb might help.

Anyway I will try other tunnings later.
