I hate it when I'm buying and love it when I'm selling!

A good example of zenstat's law of the marketplace in a different form:

When you are selling it is a buyers market

When you are buying it is a sellers market

Even when you are doing both at the same time.

I don't get disheartened by people asking high prices, I simply record them and they go into the inputs for equations to predict the probability of a given item selling at a particular price based on the price distribution.

This made me chuckle!

Well I guess I am guilty as charged, I listed some high prices on my drums here. I did ask for help in pricing them but got no such thing. So at first I was using my "dont want to sell it" price then gradually dropped down to my lowest number. These days everyone wants to talk you down so you have to play that stupid game and add in some money so you can make them happy and negotiate the price.

I did sell one kit on ebay for my "dont want to sell it price", it was my Ludwig kit I wrapped in Zebra wood veneer. Thing is with ebay you need to add 10% to pay their fees.

Currently I have my Fibes kit on ebay for 1,250.00 free pick up. Its been up there for several months now and I have had offers of 700, 750 but they want me to ship. I will likely remove them soon and try selling locally again.

But as far as the super expensive drums and parts that just get re-listed over and over again, ya I don get it either.

I'm guilty of being greedy too. I've made low-ball offers on drums, (although with respect), and I've purchased drums at below market prices, but I'm not too bothered by it.

I miss the pre internet days.

You could run wanted ads in the paper to find treasure. Also you could hit yard sales and hock shops.

Now everything truly is supply and demand, cause and effect.

It is what it is.

The internet is why I was able to collect what I have....but this was back during the earlier days of the internet. Subsequently, and for many years now, there just aren't that many really nice, complete drums and (especially) kits for sale. People who collect this stuff have now collected it. When was the last time you saw a Citrus Mod anything or a Mod Orange anything for sale? You don't even see that many "plain Jane" drums that are correct.

All the time that's passed since the drum collecting boom started....All the shows like Antiques Roadshow and American Pickers , etc., have all heightened the general public's awareness of the potential-value of things from their attics, etc. Nowadays, it's a miracle if you happen to stumble onto something at a yard sale or junk shop.

It's all been collected!

I've always maintained that condition is everything, but I still can't fathom that someone would pay this kind of money for this kit! I honestly thought the seller was crazy to even list it at this price, but I guess I was wrong!

The smart ones who cashed in..both ways, 25 yrs ago can sit back and relax while the rest elbow each other for gear that really isin,t collectable. Having said that, the new generation will never see what we saw back then so a new market has surfaced, so this stuff IS the new collectable.

I have what I want and will never need anything, unless it falls in my lap, but I,m no longer hunting....this is fun to watch in a way, but I feel for the folks that feel MIJ gear is on par with the US.in value...………….Cap;t Obvious said it best....."So..the glory days are over"
