First off welcome. I'm a little surprised you've had that kit 20 years and you don't know anything about it.

I don't know what year they are, but the wrap is not so good

and there are a lot of extra holes. I would venture to say, you won't get much, maybe in the $300-400 range.

Can you post more pics? Interiors and badges, edges.

Slingerland kits don't bring the coin that the other USA made drums bring, and with all those mods even less. You might get more selling the floor and snare seperately and the bass and rack tom as a pair, maybe for parts.

If the snare is a solid shell maybe $300-$500

Floor tom $250 on a good day and the other two drums $150

Your research indicating a '61 date is pretty good (at the very least for the snare). That badge was only used in '61 and '62 and per Dr. Wenk the clamshell strainers last full year of use was '61, with some use in early '62, so '61 is likely with early '62 being a possibility. Did you check the interiors of the drums for date stamps? They should all have date stamps with the exception of a solid maple snare. Too bad about the mods. The WMP wrap is also very yellowed and one rack tom hoop appears non-original. lucky's assessment seems reasonable.

So, you think he could potentially get $900 for the whole kit? I seriously doubt that, the snare may be worth $300 on it's own, but he'd be lucky to get $300 for the rest of the kit.

Not that it matters but that looks like Remo tom mounting hardware from the mid to late 1980's that was glommed onto these old classic drums. Pretty common for folks to perform such "upgrades" at that time but rather unfortunate from today's collector's perspective.

George, do not feel one bit bad about breaking up that kit, as it has no collector value as a four piece, with those mods. Some one needs that snare. Someone needs that floor tom even more.

This is solid advice. I hate breaking up good kits and cannibalizing individual drums to part off for a few extra bucks but in this case you can probably help a few different people complete kits that will be enjoyed and, you will make a few extra bucks. A win - win. The only real downside I can see in selling as individual drums is the potential extra time and hassle with the actual selling and shipping. If that is something you don't want to deal with then selling for less to one person may be the better option.

If I had the two toms and the bass drum at a bargain basement price, I would put period original tom mounting hardware back on the small tom and bass drum. It looks to me that the replacement hardware either uses two/possibly three of the original holes or covers that many original holes on the tom. Reinstalling a diamond shaped mounting plate might leave one "new" hole exposed and cover any others--no more than that. I think that reinstalling a rail in the original holes in the bass drum would leave two-maybe three holes from the "new" mount. A proper hoop for the small tom is easy to obtain if someone doesn't already have one. Then again, if I acquired those three drums for a very reasonable price, I just might re-wrap them so no additional holes would show after reinstalling period correct hardware. Although the snare drum seems nice, I really don't need or want it. So, my advice is to sell the snare drum for as much as you can get--probably $300--$350, and $300--$350 for the other three drums including shipping.
