People get carried away. I've certainly dented my own ambassador heads before. Since using coated ambassador X heads I haven't dented any. If you like the sound of single-ply heads with durability you should try them.

I can proudly say I don't dent my heads, break my sticks or crack my cymbals. Now, I suppose if you're using the same one ply head night after night playing at full volume, those heads will get worn out no matter what you do.

I have done it back in the late sixtys usual due to a broken stick in the middle of some solo

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Drummers that dent drum heads need to have their own heads dented.

Since I`m the only one here who dents and makes HH china`s,..I`ll go first.

My head has been dented a dozen times. It don`t work, I still don`t play elevator music.

I take my kit to the limits. it`s big so factor in travel time.

What we need is Zenzat the number`s guy. I`ll bet your life that he can come up with a formula as to why Remo is at top production and Vic Firth sells so many sticks.

When your kit is mic`d to a board, they can make you sound like a train, or a cat, or a fish. So tap away, it don`t matter how hard you hit. When you play without mics, outside or inside, you swing hard. (unless you play elevator music) It`s pretty much required. Habits are hard to break.

While yoooze guys think I`m nuts or horrible at it,...I`m over here saying to myself, How is it you don`t dent heads or have to go get your BD cuz it`s going over there.

Have you ever marched down the street in a parade ?

Yes, I march in parades regularly and play fff on a Fiberskyn3 head using Vic Firth "Ralph Hardiman" model sticks with nylon tips. I've yet to put a dent in the head. There are many heads made for this volume of playing. I have a Kevlar head on my 16x16 rope-tension parade drum. Nothing's going to dent that!

Use the right head for the beating it's going to take, and you'll never be looking at dents. Smash the hell out of a Remo Diplomat and you have no one to blame except yourself for the damage you'll cause.

OK then you know outside in the street, you hit hard. It follows me back to my kit. I have no problem knowing it`s me that does these things, I blame nobody. I use clear Emperors with black dots and they hold up well, but there is no avoiding dents or chopping a stick in half. I put tape around my tops for a reason, it makes them last longer. I have never had sticks that stay smooth for longer than the first time I play them. It`s never going to happen.

It come`s down to how you play.It has nothing to do with stick control, I have plenty of that. It`s totally BS to say playing louder don`t change the sound of your drum, it only goes so loud. That`s BS.

I`m at my best playing speed metal, I bounce on the throne the whole time I don`t sit still unless I`m doing solo snare, that`s when its goodbye head. I can have a creator in the middle of my snare and it don`t change the sound much if any, so that`s BS too. I`ll just play it till it sags too much, but they almost never rip.

I have no clue what you play so I can only talk in general. I wont know if you can relate. I can`t expect someone that plays the basic 4 to relate to someone that plays a ten drum kit. That kinda thing.

This is my kit, the only one I got, I`ve had others in that room but they were not mine. My friends were right, Buy SONOR and all you`ll ever change is heads.

Speed metal? Okay, enough said. Yah, you're going to dent Emperors along with just about any other head designed for moderate to heavy playing. To withstand the brutality of speed metal, you may want to think about investing in Kevlar heads. They're indestructible. I use the term "invest" because they may be the last heads you'll ever have to buy. No, they won't stop a bullet, but pretty close.

My ears are ringing just thinking about the volume levels you must play at. Full Marshall stacks dialed up to "11" right?
