once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

That irks me too. It's bad technique, I can play very loud with the butt end & not dent heads.Me, I'm brutally honest, I'd tell the guy his technique sucks & he needs lessons on stick control. That type of battering doesn't result in good sound either.

Stick control,...I can play the top of a ketchup bottle, the squeezy kind too.

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

The sound level of a drum head being hit only goes to so many DB. Hitting harder does not increase the loudness, just shows the drummer does not understand the physics of drumming.

Have you ever marched down the street in a parade ?

I literally have no idea what you mean.

Most people can divit a head after bringing the stick up over their shoulders, I can divit a head inside six inches.

Do you mean "divot"? That's a golf term & doesn't apply to drums, though I suppose you could use it to mean "dent".

Why would you be proud of being able to destroy heads? When they're dented they lose their tone, which is OK I guess if you don't care about that.

My former guitar player once told me "I've never seen a drummer look so relaxed but play so loud". It's all in proper technique, I can play light jazz in a small room then turn around & play hard rock at ear-bleeding volume without denting heads.

I guess the difference is that I was taught & studied stick control. Takes a lot of practice, just like everything else, but it can be learned if one is willing to do so.

Do you play mic`d ? You seem to think it`s accidental. I can play all year like Mary and not divit a head. One or two come out with a cigarette, but there`s no saving my snare head after a week of messing around. Sure, I can Pull off the strike on a cymbal, I can also follow it through and knock it over.

For instance, I can hit my 12 five or six times in a row, each time will sound different and, or, if I want, louder each time too. Have you ever broken a stick ?

I`m ready to be brutally honest and say you guys don`t what the F` you`re talking about. But I wont yet. I guess there may be a certain style you must adhere to a set of rules, But that aint me. It can be, but I prolly wont walk away saying I had fun.

But seriously,..I`m trying to figure out how you don`t know this.

The BS about not having stick control, louder don`t sound good, You`re technique sucks,...I don`t leave a dents, my sticks are smooth, My drums don`t walk away, stems from monomaniacal drummers who don`t take their kit to it`s limits. Try it some time. Actually hit the F`n drum and don`t baby it.

I`ll tel you what,...

Go line up a water bottle, a coffee cup, a saucepan, a gallon fish tank (fish optional) and a doorknob on a table. Play them all day until you get a decent sounding 15 second lick outta of it and I`ll tell you you got ten times the stick control you had yesterday.

That`s my gut feeling.
