I have had it. What in hell ls wrong with drummers who destroy their and my drum heads. I provide a nice set for drummers to use in my recording studio, but no more. I had a guy come in yesterday, fairly well known regional drummer, to lay down a few grooves for a client. He played well but during the session I noticed big dents in my up, and floor tom. Plus they play so hard which is not called for. From now on they bring in their own sets. I'm done. I asked him if he beat up and dented his heads like that, and he said yes. They use those sticks that are like the butt end of regular sticks. I am ****ed. I rarely dent a head. Very very rarely. what is wrong with these guys ? I was able to take a lighter and fix my heads fairly well so as not have to replace them. Maybe I should require a damage deposit from the client before I let someone use my drums.
Why do people dent your heads ?
That irks me too. It's bad technique, I can play very loud with the butt end & not dent heads.
Me, I'm brutally honest, I'd tell the guy his technique sucks & he needs lessons on stick control. That type of battering doesn't result in good sound either.
Exactly as frantic freddie commented many need to know what stick control is all about jaja
There used to playing with hammers btw I saw that I once owned years later saw it a pawn shop were they real did take hammers to the pies.. horrible
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp
once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
Tecqnique, and control. I agree. I can play as hard and loud as anyone without denting heads. It is a shame I have to make it hard on all drummers by having them lug their sets in and out who come in my studio because of a couple guys who do that crap. Like I said, maybe a damage deposit and they won't do that crap.

Yep!!! Freddy is 100% right! I am a 200 pound bodybuilder as well as a working drummer. None of my heads is even slightly dented! It's one thing to play loudly, and another to play stupidly!
Brian
The sound level of a drum head being hit only goes to so many DB. Hitting harder does not increase the loudness, just shows the drummer does not understand the physics of drumming.

I`m one of those head denting, stickmark leaving, cymbal denter, 15" China making, drums a shaking, Garage band learning, never money earning, keep the bowl burning, Never an audience returning, stick chopper head stopper, play outside a lotta, Remo loves me guy.
I can also sometimes use microphones every here or there if that`s what they wanna hear.
