Hey I'm new here, I am trying to figure out what i have. Leedy? Looks like their lugs.. set has been altered so many times i keep discovering older n older layers n parts as i research. Can anyone help?

Start a new post in this section "Vintage Drums" with the subject "Need help identifying this drum set"; then give a description of the drums, lugs etc...I think you mentioned that there is yellow sparkly material underneath; include that. Also include at least 1 photo but preferably 2 or 3 especially close up shots; is there any badges ? if so, photograph them plus the lugs

This was found in the attic after a distant relative who was a drummer. It almost went straight to the recycling bin, but I decided to take a closer look. On the rim I found the "Leedy; indianapolis Ind" mark. The drum is missing the bottom head/rims/tension rods/snares, but apart from that it is complete with the strainer working well. It has been painted grey with what appears to be regular wall paint. The brass is visible on several spots. Modern heads fit tightly on this one. My guess it that it is a 1920s drum.

Hopefully, I'll find the time and patience to make it playable again.

That's a mid to late '20s Leedy Professional. The strainer is a correct era Speedway, only the 4 point mount was not used on this drum...it originally had the same strainer with a 2 pt. mount (or an earlier presto strainer with the same two hole mount). You can see the extra holes on under the paint. The drum is most likely nickel over the brass shell, but it may have been "Klondike Gold," a faux gold finish.

Wow, thanks for that info! I was wondering about the extra holes in the shell. I do believe it is a brass shell (and a brass hoop). Under the grey paint is black paint that upon closer examination seems to have been dissolved by the grey paint and almost soaked up a bit. The inside is originally black; I've been able to gently wipe off a little bit of the white paint. Still not sure yet what to do with the outside; it seems impossible to get rid of the grey paint only, and on several spots all paint is gone and only brass is visible (if it is indeed brass). I might need to start a new thread on this drum!
