Really nice, with great attention to detail. Especially the cymbals. A Citadel is in my future. This is inspiring....marko

Nice work. Always fun for the hunt for that piece that you need.

Dan! What a great looking kit! The Citadel, from the 1967 catalog, is one of my favorites. Curious as to where your other components are that you won't have them until Fall, 2018! -Mark

Hey Mark (and the others who may be similarly curious),

Thanks for the kind comments. I'm hoping to get one of those photos like you had for your Joe Cusatis Slingerland set! As to the odd part about having to wait until this fall, it goes like this:

1. The drums are in Florida, along with the cowbell and attaching hardware, the hi-hat stand, pedal and snare stand.

2. The ride cymbal is inbound to Florida via one of the shippers. Not sure yet which. It's going to my son's place for now.

3. The hi-hat cymbals and the ride cymbal stand are in Maine.

This is all because I get to spend about 3 weeks in Maine each year and two in Florida. Depending on where I'm going to be next, I have things sent to the two locations. I will retire in about two months time (currently in Amman, Jordan). I will be in Florida for a couple of months then head to Maine for the summer. When I return to Florida in the fall, I will bring the missing elements with me, at which time everything will be in the same place and I will try to stage the photo (Note: Lord willing, of course - the plans of mice and men).

That kit looks great. I don't know much about the Rogers version of the AZCO cymbals. I've got one trademark on my site:plus the two other AZCO Canada trademarks I know about:Do your cymbals have the first one I've shown, or something else? Any additional info would be great so I can add it to my examples of all the different trademarks.

Zenstat,

They all have the mark in your first photo: Rogers SS by Azco Canada. 14" hats and 20" ride - seller says 20-1/4", to be precise.

Fantastic! And with the Rogers cowbell and cymbal no less! Can't wait to see your final catalog shot. And I'm guessing that you're going to put that clean reso head on the batter side so your set will look identical to the catalog?Mike

Ah yes, the details we all get such a kick out of. I just may do that Mike.

Very nice! The color is rich and vibrant and the hardware looks terrific. Unless the picture is hiding the aging process, it looks like its in virtually mint condition.

The kit is in very, very nice condition. Just below the threshold of NOS - easy 9 to 9.5. It belonged to a member, or perhaps former member because I've not seen a post in a long time - yyz773.

I bought it on an eBay auction and was the only bidder. Entry price was very good, so I put in my one and only bid and got the kit. Frankly, I was very surprised. Earlier auctions had delivered half again as much on the same kit, but for only the three red onyx pieces. The Citadels in this color are pretty hard to find. I had one I got from Rockin Rita in the mid-90's, but it had issues. I sold it quickly to an interested party that didn't mind the issues.

For this set, the seller was the original owner. I was very glad to get it and I have been enjoying getting all the pieces in the right place. It came with a COB PowerTone and the three drums. I located the rest over the past 2-1/2 years or so from a number of different sources. The Dynasonic is nearly in out of the box condition and I got it from MrFatHead on another eBay auction for a great price.

I also have a matching PowerTone and did have the matching Dynasonic, but sold that for an offer I could not refuse.

This is a completely 1968 version of the set, which appeared in the 1967-68 Catalog. The catalog photo shows a much earlier hi-hat with the rubber stopper and the 7-line Dynasonic. I have that Dynasonic, but the correct one for the 1968 kit is most likely the 5-line model.

Eventually you guys can compare the factory photo to my set to see how I've done.

Beautiful kit! Congratulations. I have one of those Rogers Azco cymbals (18ā€¯crash) and it would rival any old K in darkness and warmth.

Thanks for the details. I'm not often jealous of the kits posted here, but yours strikes a real chord with me. Absolutely beautiful.

My "catalog" Rogers set that I selected in 1961 was purchased from Foster's Music in my home town of Hammond, Indiana. I, too, obsessed over every drum catalog. I could get from the music stores. I narrowed my obsession to Rogers because of all the space age looking Swivomatic hardware. The Citadel was one outfit that tripped my trigger. However, I used the catalog's pictures and the accompanying text to help me select the exact four piece set with all Holiday drums. I wanted a 14x20" bass drum, an 8x12" mounted tom, a 16x16 floor tom, and a 5x14 matching snare drum. I specified that the snare drum and the small tom should mount off the bass drum with separate Swivomatic mounting systems. I also wanted a telescoping Swivo cymbal mount on the right side of the bass drum. I selected these components over many months of fantasizing about it. I already had great A. Zildjian ride, crash, and hi hat cymbals with good stands. I ordered the one piece foot board Swivomatic bass drum pedal with the drums. The most difficult decision came down to what wrap I wanted on the drums. I decided on Black Diamond Pearl. I don't have many pictures of that drum set. But here's one onstage with the Exports in 1964 at Madura's Danceland in the spring of 1964.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.
