I noticed the interior design for the new beavertail snare lug is interesting. A piece of felt retains the swivel nut against a couple of wings that are cast into the inside walls. I like it, and Joe Thompson might have too.

Nice. So now the question is, when will these be available. Also, where are they getting the onyx wraps? The shallow snare looks like the wrap available through Precision and the deep snare looks closer to the original, as do the red and blue. Do you expect the WMP, BDP and silver sparkle to be in the mix, as well. When will we begin to see complete sets????

Stunning and exciting, except one nitpick about the modern rims - the ears, going into the bottom flange, are so wide as to give an almost frilly effect to the appearance of the drum as a whole. The old tall boys had the nice tight ears. They speak to me of a more thoughtful and complete manufacturing process. It occurs to me I may be the only one worried about this...

I'm with you regarding the rims. The ears don't have that classic Rogers "tight pinch". Those rims look too Ludwig-like. The other nitpicky thing that bothers me is the use of screws in the script badge rather than the original nails.

Oh, well, they're still beautiful for modern reproductions. Prettier than what most of the big manufacturers are now making.

I noticed it too Mitch. The hoops don't thrill me, but no doubt they will be serviceable. For the vintage hoops, it's a Joe Thompson detail that they probably never thought of. The width of the ears on the original hoops was narrow, and the descent to regular part of the third flange of the hoop was steeper. I think Joe was a man of precision and he expected the lugs to be properly aligned and spaced. In that case, there wasn't the need for a wide seat for the rod and washer. The hoop had a close-tolerance hole and narrow seat because that was all it needed. With some of the other manufacturers, they allowed a wider berth for the rod because they were expecting to need room for a lack of alignment between the hoop opening and the alignment of the lug.

The hoops don't thrill me either.

I bought a new snare side for a dyna from them and the chrome plating was not very good.

Obvious uneven coating on the snare guard butt plates.

For $52 bucks ,it should be a whole lot higher quality.

Glad to hear I'm not alone on this aesthetic issue. :)

pgm554 - bad chrome is a real consideration here; some may like the rims as they are but bad chrome is just bad. Disappointing to hear.
