What to look for when buying 70’s Ludwig Vistalite kit

Today was the day to paint, but it’s been raining. Going to hold on for better weather conditions. On the bright side though, the inlays came in the mail just now. They are a perfect fit for the groove and the length if the hoop. What are your thoughts on the inlay color?

The silver sparkle will be great! I have a set of Clears, and the original hoop has the flat silver inlay. Yours will look better I think.

Thanks! I’ve been trying to do the best I can to make these drums shine!

Well, the weather permited some painting today.

First light coat of paint. They are looking great.

Not flawless, but WAY better than they were. I also kinda like the “weathered” look. Gives them more of a vintage vibe I believe.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas!

I was fortunate to have some extra free time and get to work on the last details of the “restoration”

Here are the final pictures. Thank you all for your kind words, support and advice.

Thank you, thank you.

I got to play them for a few minutes after tuning them with my tune-bot.

I have to say they sound better than what I thought they would. Last time I played an acrylic kit was way back when I was 15. It was a Ludwig kit like this one, but they had painted the inside red. Actually looked very cool. That was my introduction to drums. Hence why I wanted to buy this kit.

I will get new clear drumheads and I am sure they will sound even better. The drumheads on the kit are old....like several years old. Surprisingly they tuned up nicely without much difficulty.
