I don't know, I am with you.
But I'm sure it takes some practice and know how to achieve it.

How do they do it? Very well, I'd say.
I don`t know how people can play the cymbals and once in a while a drum on the kit.
I play drums and once in a while a cymbal or two.
As for the speed pedal`n,...It`s more easier than it looks. You do gentle. very lightly and soft, but quick. I prefer two pedals and two drums. When you step the pedal like this guy is, you end up moving your foot in like half circles.
I put the weight on the heel and use the toes at the top of the pedal. The smaller and lighter I try, the faster I go. Stepping involves the knees and hip so you tire more quickly.
Just the calf and heel do the work, the pedal provides the resistance to spring back. The beater does not go so far back at all either.
Small movements, lightly, and gently,...but quick.
This kid works at my local Guitar Center. I saw him playing on a practice pad when I was in there a few weeks back and saw how fast his hands were. So I struck up a conversation and he showed me his technique... then we talked about bass drum playing. He sat down on a kit with a double bass and I was blown away!
Not my style of music, but he's incredibly talent when it comes to playing what he does.
The really fast stuff kicks in at about 30 seconds or so. at 55 seconds, his bass drum speed is incredible.

I'm curious if these speed demons can actually play with feel and creativity as opposed to just playing as fast as possible. It's impressive to see how fast they can get that double bass going, but at the end of the day, it's not very musical.

Funny, that's what my dad used to say about my music in the 60's.

Agreed, very impressive as far as the speed but to me that sounded awful, just a bunch of racket, sorry.

Wow!! Man he's super fast. If I could play good double bass at half that speed I'd be happy. Good stuff thanks!!
