Ludwig Flat Base Stand Part, Part Two

Loading...

Hi Brian,

I drove out one of the roll pins and installed the Slingerland pin. A perfect fit, except for the slightly longer length.

Here's what I found; the Ludwig roll pin is 1/8" x 5/8". The Slingerland roll pin is 1/8" x 3/4" (1/8" longer).

I found the 1/8" x 5/8" roll pin on eBay from companies that will also ship to Canada. A quick example is item number 172851939565

Brian!

OK, took some pictures to show what we're talking about.

Picture #1 shows the Slingerland pin sticking out a bit on either side of the tube, just below the geared tilter.

Picture #2 shows the tube turned 90 degrees, so you can see how flush the Ludwig pin is to the tube.

Picture #3 shows the two pins. The shorter pin is the Ludwig.

Picture #4 shows the 1/8" pin punch used to drive out the pins.

I cannot say for sure, but I would bet that you need a roll pin. They are used in many types of drum assemblies. The pin is slightly larger than the hole, and the sides are compressed as it is inserted so it stays in place.

Try a hardware store, or even a gun shop.

I hope this helps.

Thank you very much for all of your ideas and input, Tinman! I bought a few roll pins yesterday, but, they were all a bit big. I'll look again. I'm sorry I confused people by giving the wrong model number. I got snare stands and cymbal stands models mixed up.My fault completely. I've been replacing my clunky modern stuff with lighter Ludwig flat base equipment and I'm just beginning to learn about these drums and hardware. Again, thank you VERY much. I really appreciate your help and patience!

morning Brian, sorry i'm a little late, didn,t have any more baskets to look at, but I had the top of a Ludwig hurk. stand looks to have the same section as a snare stand has two roll pins that hold it together, I would think any machine shop would have pins you need, even if you needed to ground them to length before you installed them..........mike

The amount of time and effort folks on this forum will take for others in need, case in point being tearing apart your own gear to take measurements and pictures, is just awesome!

I'm a very "visual" person and have a tough time with descriptions! I find that posting pictures for all to see can be the best way to show what is needed. Fortunately, I tend to take pictures of the rebuild/restoration of most of my drum projects. I didn't have any of the Ludwig 1363 snare stand and it was very easy to push out one pin and substitute the Slingerland. Of course, the other issue is that I'm retired and have the time! LoLoLoLo

If my pictures help only one member, it was worth it!

Finally, to repeat, Brian will need 1/8" x 5/8" roll pins. Not sure how they are measured in Canada...possibly metric. Let us know, Brian!

gunnellett, you are certainly right! I can't believe what our members will do to help a fellow-member. I am truly thankful and very humbled by these responses. Mark, your photos and measurements are a tremendous help. Actually Tinman, mlayton and burgundy are right up there on my list of great guys as well! From the bottom of my heart, I thank all of you. I am truly in awe.

Hey, guys!

Everything worked out well! I was able to obtain a couple of roll pins that were the right diameter from a local auto supply store. The gentleman behind the counter just gave them to me. I think he enjoyed the story of what I had in mind for them. I had to grind each one down a bit but, it was no huge deal Thanks again, everyone! You are the BEST!
