Ludwig Flat Base Stand Part, Part Two

Loading...

Hey, Mike and Anyone Else Out There!

Today I went searching for roll pins or slotted spring pins to fit my top section of stand so the tilter would never spin. I finally got lucky at an auto supply shop. Even the smallest ones were too big. I then examined my other Ludwig stand more closely. No pins. Pins are hollow. There appears to be four solid metal pins inserted then hammered down so the heads split out a bit thus anchoring the basket. PLEASE, if anyone has an old Ludwig flat base stand (1400 model) would you take a look and let me know how it is anchored? THANK you VERY much!!!

I own a couple of 1400 cymbal stands, and I'd like to help you if I can, but I can't picture what you are describing.

Does yours look like this? If so, the tilter doesn't have any pins that I can see. The tilter head presses onto the knurled shaft, and the tilter itself has teeth that interlock and a spring for tension.

Ludwig Vistalite Big Beat set consisting of:
14” X 22” bass, 16” X 16” floor tom, 8” X 12” ride tom, 9” X 13” ride tom, 5” X 14” snare
Ludwig 201 Speed King bass drum pedal

Thank you very much for your response, my friend! I guess I didn't make myself clear. I have three or four cymbal stands and they are all as you describe. it's the snare drum stands that are causing me to have a breakdown! LOL! Thanks, Tinman!

I think the 1400 part number threw everyone off. The flat base cymbal is stand is a 1363.

Thanks, Mike. I thought that was the case, but I wasn't sure.

Does anyone know how the basket was originally anchored to the top rod though? Something must have been used to secure it. All I have on one snare stand are four small see though holes. THANKS!!!

Hi Brian,

Yes, it was your description of the issue that was confusing. Even I thought you were talking about the 1400 cymbal stand when you mentioned the tilter. So, naturally, I was confused when you talked about those pins! Like Mike said, we're talking about the 1363 Snare stand. I looked at my stand right now and do see the two pins that are missing from your stand. Very odd that they are missing, which means that someone drove them out with a pin punch. I wonder why?

I have some pins from a Slingerland Tempo King bass drum pedal. They are used to attach the cam to the rocker. I'll drive out one of the Ludwig pins later today and see if it's the same size as the Slingerland. Will report back. For now, I'm going back to bed, as it's 5am here on the west coast!
