Cool thread! Here is some pic's of my 60's Stewart kit. Last month I had Jeff Woods from Woods Custom Drums square up the shells, redo the edges...huge difference. Put all new heads on it: coated P4 on BD batter, smooth white Ambassador on BD reso, and coated Ambassador's on toms, top and bottom. Some of these pics are pre work done. I still have two original Stewart BD heads. 22/13/16.
Here is some pic's of my 60's Coronet kit. 20/12/16. BD came with one original hoop. I bought a pair of 60's Ludwig BD hoops from a guy off CL, going to refinish them and put them on this kit. Also going to have the same work done on this kit that was done on my Stewart's (make sure drums are squared, redo edges, seal them up, new heads all around, etc). Both my Coronet and Stewart kit's are in round, and sound amazing. I want to do a video on each kit, when I get a chance.
My head is spinning Kenwood. I just can't believe my eyes. Eye BallI wonder if Al Drew's has ever had that many drums in stock. Right now I have 2 complete sets with snares, 3 extra snares and a single tom in my closet in Florida. In Maine I have 4 complete sets with snare drums, a two-piece set waiting for a floor tom and two partial bass drums in my shed and garage. I feel like a double-stuffed oreo already and in need of getting down to the thin ones. I can't imagine what it must be like to have a warehouse full of drums. It must be like Christmas every day.
Do you pull them each off the shelf from time-to-time to gig or simply play them, or are they purely for display at this juncture? It might be time to consider opening it as a museum and charging us for a visit. :)
Kenwood,
How many complete MIJ sets do you own now? Just curious is all...
Very impressive collection and thanks for preserving them!!
Cheers
These MIJ's are very cool. Such a huge variety.
I like that Ludwig in sky blue Kenwood. Very nice indeed, even if it's not MIJ. ;)
grantro It is my great pleasure to put some love on these cool little drum sets
Hey Dan,
yes of the few Ludwig kits I have,
those sky blue pearls are the nicest and most original by far
Here's some updated pictures of my Stewart kit. Finally got them set up after having the edges done, etc. Man...I'm blown away by the sound: fat, warm, perfect amount of resonance, etc...very very happy with the work done, and the results. Notes: Hi Hats are missing, left them at a studio for some session work, they're 15" K light's. Also, snare is a early 60's John Grey Broadway, 14x5, 6 lugger, sounds amazing.
