Cocktail anyone?

Loading...

hey y'all!

I hope y'all missed me! I have been busy this summer. I been jammin, havin cocktails, cookin out, havin cocktails, class reunion, with cocktails, partys on the patio, with cocktails, Going to outdoor concerts, with cocktails, corvette club trip, with cocktails, aand just sittin home, with cocktails.

I went pawn shoppin today and came up with a 6X10 PDP 805 series all maple snare drum. I was thinkin it would go good with my vintaage slingy 20" floor tom, I use for a trash can, with a vintage 22" zlidjian ride for the lid, in my lil drum shop. I want to build my own cocktail kit, just for fun! Im sorta scared to drill any holes in my beloved floor tom, so I think I might just mount the snare to a cymbal stand ot hi hat stand. I also have a 10" luddy cs accent elite custom tom i can add. I saw a website with details on how to convert a regular kick pedal to an inverted one for my cocktail kit. Has anyone ever built a cocktail kit? Chime in please!

Well... no, never built a cocktail drum.

But I did pick up a Vespe cocktail shell that had some Rogers hardware on it that I wanted. I was going to stick the shell on ebay for no reserve but now I think I got the same itch you do... a cocktail drum would be cool!!

So I'm eager to see if you get any bites.

Not a Guru... just interested..

Hey man, I was just thinking about you today and here you are. Yeah I missed you. That cocktail kit would be cool, wrap them all the same as that 20" slingie, then send that trash can lid to me.

Drum bag is a big hit!! Everyone really digs it. How do those 22"ers sound? I have a 20" from the seventies that can get a little out of control. Looking for something a little dryer.

I've got a Ludwig Universal Speedmaster - that's what I'm naming my next dog... Speedmaster?... no, "Ludwig Universal Speedmaster".

It's a reversible pedal, there's probably more, that can be flipped around to strike upwards.

I imagine that's what most you see on eBay are being bought for:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Ludwig-Universal-Speed-Master-Bass-Drum-Pedal_W0QQitemZ280399769964QQcmdZViewItemQQptZVintgae_Drums_Percussion?hash=item414920f16c&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

It's a cool pedal in some ways - smooth and definitely got style, packs away super small, typical hi quality like they don't make in 2009.

Is it just me or does the metal Ludwig and others used back then seem superior to what you see today? Seems denser and the chrome was good. You can sense it was made with pride - what a concept!

On the down side the pedalboard is very narrow and I use a massive lambswool beater and I can't adjust that pedal to feel right with that heavy a beater... maybe with a stronger spring.

how about...

the floor tom continues it's life as a garbage can (with maybe a better fitting 16" lid) and a kick pedal is hooked up down there so it operates the lid like a regular foot operated trash can.

Believe me I have thought about that. The floor tom is 20" a 16" lid would fall through.
