Need help identifying floor tom

Loading...

Hello knowledgeable drum people!

I recently purchased a 4 piece 63/64 John Grey Broadway set. Got a killer deal on it. The floor tom however is something else I believe, I'm hoping to get some insight on what it might be. Here's what I know about it thus far:

- It's pre-international, it's just under 16" in diameter, and 14" in depth.

- Slingerland type lugs.

- 8 lugs.

- Re-rings (3), can't tell wood type, it looks stained maybe?

- I think the tension rods are metric.

- The hoops are standard (16"), so I'm thinking not original to the drum.

- No badge on drum. Nothing inside the drum noting its history.

- Drum is in round, edges are solid.

- Sounds great! Fat, round, resonant.

- Very solid feeling drum.

- The wrap is in great shape, like the rest of the kit, it also matches the other drums very well. So that confuses me even more...

- The mounts aren't ones I've seen before. Not the normal Broadway types ones I've seen on other kits, all though I looked online and found some images of a single headed Broadway floor tom with similar looking ones (note: 525): http://ukdrums.weebly.com/broadway-1935-66.html

I've attached pictures (see below in separate posts). Hope they help. If there was a legit matching floor tom out there, I'd consider buying it, priced dependent. I doubt that would be an easy find though. I'm not super worried though, this one matches well, sounds great and got a insane deal.

Thanks:)

Hello Trilok! ... and welcome to the VDF!

That said though ... no, you didn't ATTACH pics, you embedded them in the text box using links. We ask that you ATTACH all pics as a separate attachment using the "Manage Attachments" control. There are reasons for this! The main reason is all links eventually go ... dead. Then when someone clicks on the thread later, there are no pics for reference! We save all attachments for repeated viewing, years later even! Also, when you embed within the text box, the pics are almost always TOO BIG ... and they blow the thread off the page, making navigation difficult. THANKS for your understanding! ENJOY your stay here at the VDF ... BEST!!!

I did embed pictures, but was advised to use other way of posting pictures. I'm new, sorry:/

I'll figure it out and post asap.

Thanks.

SUPERBLY done! ... and THANK YOU! If you need to do any pic management like sizing, rotating, etc., that has to be done prior to putting up the attachment. Looks like you have a bead on that now too! THANKS!!!

Thanks:) Yeah the pictures are normal before uploading, but ended up sideways...I heard that photos from Iphones do this though. I wonder if I put the photos sideways BEFORE uploading, if they'd end up normal haha.

(shrugs) I'll figure it out:)

Vertical grain asian mahogany...(Luan) that makes them, Made In Japan. Probably 50's/60's. Couldn't tell you which company because there were so many. The Slingerland style copy lugs are another dead give-away. Slingy lugs were the most copied lugs used on MIJ drums from that era.

John

Too many great drums to list here!
