Picked this up at a antique shop for not very much, what are the specs on this snare and is it worth anything?

Single-tension Leedy marching snare. 1940's maybe - check for a date code stamped inside to date it exactly. Marching snare value depends (mostly) on parts value - this one doesn't have many usable parts (no lugs, very long t-rods, no badge, tensioner instead of throwoff) so not much value on ebay ($50 maybe?). Wood hoops and claws have some value as does shell if you want to make a nice custom snare.

Its still usable as a marching snare though - the single tension heads make it easy to tighten quickly. My advice if you don't need the parts - save it and take it to the next anti-war protest (can't be far away at the rate O's going).

Um, what are you talking about? Who's the hawk who's now a dove?

C'mon guys.

This is a DRUM forum. I come here to get away from politics.

. . . and geek out over gear. Let's remember what's truly important. Drums and cymbals.

This is Arkansas. It's a pretty dangerous place for any type of bird...be it hawk, dove, duck, quail, or turkey.

Hopefully eagles (especially bald eagles - you know, our national symbol) aren't on that list in Arkansas too ...

I'll let it go, but I don't really like to be called a hypocrite for no reason, especially for a comment as innocent and (I thought) light-hearted as the one I made.

That is a really nice example of a Leedy marching drum. The shell is a 3-ply with inner and outer mahogany plies (real mahogany!). That one is in nearly mint condition from what I can see -especially for a marching snare -which were often used outdoors and were exposed to much more random abuse than the average drum set snare drum is.

Wow! I really like that drum because of it's condition. It would make a nice decoration piece in a drummer's home, in my opinion. As far as playability....why not? It would be cool to let that baby live a little, too!

Value? At the high end of these types of drums, in my opinion. I would say it's probably worth $100-$150, at the moment.

meh....mmmmmaybe not that much. I looked again. It's pretty much just decoration. Maybe $100 tops. Nice example, though!

well unfourtunately the snare head (original leedy branded cowskin) is broken, so playing it isnt an option. Yeah this thing is pretty cool, will probably hold on to it unless i get an offer or see what it does in ebay.
