oh also, it seems very close to 14", if not exactly. Would buying a fibreskin work if i wanted to replace the snare side head? Does anyone manufacture skin heads for this sort of restoration?

1970 Fibes COF - 24x14, 13x9, 16x16, 18x16
1972 Ludwig Classis Maple - 22x14, 13x9, 16x16

Standard heads should fit fine - Leedy made high quality shells that should take modern Remo/Evans type with no problems. The type of heads depends on what you want to do with it. If you're going to use it as a marching snare (anti-war protests maybe?) then Remo/Evans are the way to go. Save the calf head and maybe swap the snares too since the gut ones are muddy compared to the metal snappy snares made today.

If you're trying to make it a non-player vintage restoration you can still sometimes track down calf heads on ebay - but the snare side heads are very hard to find since they are very thin and most have split. You can also get new ones, but they're going to sell for more than you paid for the drum.

From mcjnic

This is Arkansas. It's a pretty dangerous place for any type of bird...be it hawk, dove, duck, quail, or turkey.

From 4MoreYearsOhNo

Hopefully eagles (especially bald eagles - you know, our national symbol) aren't on that list in Arkansas too ...I'll let it go, but I don't really like to be called a hypocrite for no reason, especially for a comment as innocent and (I thought) light-hearted as the one I made.

What? You're not from Arkansas, are you? I was poking fun at the Arkansans shootin' anything and everything in the name of "huntin'". It's one of the few places where the school district actually excuses the kiddos so they can spend a week in the deer woods. I'm not from here (obviously). I figured the humor wouldn't be lost on others. And for the record, yes, I would imagine these folks would shoot an eagle (sans toupee or not)...provided it flew close enough to the ground. Strange bunch of people...for sure. This comment wasn't directed at you. If you took offense, I am truly sorry. I did not mean to offend. It was for all to enjoy. Sorry you took it wrong. I've got to get back to class to teach skinnin' and cookin' the 'possum. Remember, bake 'till she smiles at you!

Oh yeah...

Nice drum. Unless you need an old deep snare, I would step out of the box and view it as something altogether different. Personally, I would skin it with calf (Cook's Rebeats site) and use it as a cool old wing tom. I would put that baby on a stand and work towards a great old Levon kit. That one is a moldy oldy. It's going to have a really cool warm and woody sound. I might even consider cleaning up that finish. Also, as was stated, the value is not going to put the kiddo though a semester of college. It's up to you. It is definitely a cool old drum. Talk to Ludwig-Dude about this idea. I am getting very interested in his current project.
