Who made Vibra?

DOH

Well as of now I have over 100 names of MIJ. Been able to note at least a couple as Star, Pearl, or Hoshino with certain accuracy ( Such as Star, Tempro,Vibra ) not many, but it is a start.

As Churchill said " This isn't the end, but it is the end of the beginning! "

Is it safe to assume that any badge with " Worlds Supreme Quality " is Star?

Crown evidently was made by Pearl (at least as well)

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

That's Hoshino all the way not Pearl. This is one of the issues I'm aiming to resolve. Some of the kits Kenwood posted are the same as the one on the other thread. A lot of the misconception ( and mis branding ) I think is in part due to the fact that there were three companies pumping out drums, not just two as was commonly thought. Even by me until more recently. One thing about Hoshino drums I've noticed that I haven't seen on Star or Pearl drums is the use of eight lugs top and bottom on the 12" & 13" toms.

So we have the issue of some lugs were likely used by all, or some. Same with certain finishes,hardware,etc.. Some of the names may have been produced by both at different points. Such as Kent was a US brand, and then later on was MIJ. So it wouldn't be surprising. I'm trying to get a few starting points and branch out. Have a foundation started.

Yes exactly Three companies Pearl, Star (Hoshino gakki), and Hoshino

all making drums separate of one another

from the beginning of the Japanese import explosion

Each marketing the various models of drum kits they produced

With their own separate and distinct badges and labels (and many with no badges at all)

at the behest of the different music stores and distributors of the day

after a time it seems apparent that at least some of the distinguishing hardware usually exclusive to just one of the three

had somehow been overlapped and sourced out between all three

They all continued in parallel to each other right up to the point where Star dropped out of the stencil drum making to re-tool as Tama

Any demand for stencil kits bearing any of the former Star made badges

was fulfilled by the two remaining stencil makers namely Pearl and Hoshino

By just simply making their own product and applying thin foil sticker type badges with the former Star names reproduced on them That is why we have Star made Tempos and Pearl made Tempos

correction in most cases the replacement badges for the former Star made labels

were just thin foil stickers

but Pearl at least at first used metal and plastic badges as well as the foil

Here is a lower end Hoshino built Black Jack kit (post Star)

again with the shark tooth lugs

Unique In this case as instead of a thin foil re-make

it looks to be the original Star used metal Black Jack tags
