... and ALL excellent replies here! I think we are ALL agreed that FB, with the way that it is used by the masses, is a JOKE! As I mentioned prior, I couldn't agree more with that sentiment! I do maintain however, that used wisely and in the manner to which I believe "social media" was intended, it's a fine tool, and SHOULD be used... much as I, jccabinets/Jeff, as well as countless others I know that are on FB do. We all avoid the daily drivel and "I like me!" crap that populates it. A good friend of mine calls it "Face Brag" ! I think he has that nailed! Otherwise ...
... the VDF is still here!, and as mentioned, we are all still here!, and not ready to throw in the proverbial towel yet! Not even close. Again, David and I THANK all of you for making this the comfortable nice place it is!
Tommyp
Right on, Tommy! There is nothing wrong with a "comfortable nice place" at all! There is enough "confrontational" nonsense in the world as it is! Why hope for more?

I agree. It's a lot like being in a monkey cage. Some monkeys like to fling crap while most are content to spend their days wanking and pleasuring themselves. There are some nice wanker monkeys here. A few crap flingers too!

Just read this whole post, and admittedly, I have a FB page. It really started when my 25th class reunion came up. I've been off and on with it, mostly promoting my Drum restoration projects and political viewpoints.
The VDF however, is a place I come to for advice, questions I don't have answers to, and posting of my projects, knowledge sharing, and even some posts of some of my collection.
I don't see this as going away, I see it only growing. Just this morning I was researching a Tama floor tom I have to sell, after trying to date the badge on Google, found myself on the VDF.....where the answers are!
So, to sum it up, thus is where you have a knowledge base on Vintage Drums larger than Google! As far as I'm concerned, my tombstone will include: he was a lifelong member of the VDF...;)

1966 Ludwig Clubdate Oyster Black
1969 Ludwig BB Blue Oyster Keystone Clubdate
1971 Ludwig BB Black Oyster

What a coincidence you mentioning Google and toumbstones - I've rented space to them on my tombstone to help offset my final costs...

I am 29 and I remember the day I signed up for Facebook in early 2005 only one year after it was developed. I was at college and that was when only certain colleges were approved to have it and only college students were on it. Those were the days before newsfeeds, hashtags, etc. It was great! However, a mere three years later I found myself with 1000+ "friends" online and no quality personal relationships as well as a growing amount of ads, popups, spam and all the other crap that goes along with having Facebook. That was when I made the decision to deactivate my account.
For me, social media platforms do not work. I am a relatively private person who highly values physical personal relationships. I actually like to spend time, in person, with people. I like to make eye-contact and focus on what they are saying. I find that these friendships are most important and add to my quality of life. You know, like people have been doing for centuries up to this point (what a novel idea!).
I see this forum as a wealth of information, it is not a typical "social media" platform (thank God!). I see the threads on here, for the most part, like quality conversations with a good friend.
Thank you all for participating here and I hope VDF is not going anywhere anytime soon because vintage drums are our history! It is up to you and me to preserve it and pass it on to my generation and those that follow.

Mathew..well said. As long as a forum keeps out the obvious clown, and a handful of mud slingers, this is very enjoyable here. Once I got the chip off my shoulder about losing my business and listening to the "forgotten clown" spewing on and on, I knew I had to make changes in my own approach here..No more below the belt shots from me..Promise.Sumo Dude
