Tommy P I'm with ya there! Not a big FB person at all. I'll take a good forum any day. The FB groups are ok. Just not the same for obvious reasons. FB keeps the sheep in a neat and tidy place. All staring at the palms of their hands. :D

Glenn,

I'm with you. Unlike Tommy, I still have not bit the bullet and joined FB for various reasons. First, in my current position, I'm strongly cautioned about participating in social network sites and sharing details of my personal life with the general public (my employees). FB and other SN sites are blocked from the government intranet I work on (I'm amazed I can log into the VDF here at work). If I even plug a USB flash drive or my phone into my computer, my actions are logged and monitored in order to prevent any unauthorized information sharing (if I ever forwarded my emails to a private server, I'd be fired).

And sorry FaceBookers, but I feel FB has fostered the popular misconception that all your friends are truly interested in everything you do, say, think, or eat. Com'on... posting a picture of your lunch and revealing "I just had the best tuna fish sandwich" isn't newsworthy. It's just silly and self-indulgent.

So I'll stay onboard right here on the VDF as long as it still floats. Nice discussions. Nice pictures of vintage drums. Nice people. And no one posts pictures of their lunch.

This forum used to be very active and confrontational, which is what I loved about it...

Post some pics of your genitals and I'll confront you about them...

Mike!

Please do take note of the fact that I said I loathe Social Media, with FB being the prime offender for ALL the reasons mentioned ... I agree! That said though, I am also cognizant of the power Social Media has when used as it was intended!, and not for showing pictures of one's lunch. If you were to view my page you would see that it is dedicated to drums, drumming, upcoming Sounds of Frank performances, and pics/videos of past performances. One does NOT have to put one's life on display for all of one's friends to see. It's how YOU choose to set it up. In that regard, FB has been an excellent tool for moving "the brand forward", and without being narcissistic about it! But that's just my approach, and how I choose to use it. It really has become the best way to reach a lot of people and again, keep "the brand moving ever forward". Otherwise, I more than understand your reluctance! Posting this on a mobile device, hence all the edits!~ SMALL keyboard!

Well said TP!

True about the ebb and flow. I've been with this forum for a long time now and really enjoy it. I did register with FB, but was suddenly inundated with so many people wanting to "friend" me! It got to be ridiculous, so I suspended my account... and happy that I did! While I know that social media is here to stay, I'm just not ready to take part in it. Heck, I still don't have a smartphone, but only a texting phone!! LoLoLoLo That may change by the end of the year, but only because my girlfriend is doing her best to convince me that it would be beneficial to use Face-time when trying to explain problems with her computer, car, etc. We'll see!

I lived on this forum when I picked up my first vintage kit. It was an invaluable source of information on that project and all that followed. I just don't ask many questions anymore... and I never have been knowledgable enough to answer many. Kind'a like being the triangle player...... Rest.... Rest.... Rest....Rest ... Then DING!!! Back to resting. :)

I'm into all sorts of outdated things so I guess I'll be here for a while.

Socialist media is something I avoid like the plague. I don't want the world knowing what I had for lunch. Or anything else I don't specifically want them to know. Ya know?

What amazes me is how a few people in the drum biz really believe that people care what beer they drink, or their political views, or how many selfies they take of themselves. Those are the clowns that belong where they are now, its just one step closer to the end.
