From Dan Boucher

Great thread guys. Love seeing all these MIJ kits. I had no idea of the variety that was available back then even though I had a set of my own from '67 to 76 or so.

What did you have?

Here's an early 70s Yamaha YD270 I finished refurbishing this week. Unfortunately the original snare was missing but came with the 70s steel Tama Swingstar in the photo

More pics forthcoming......as I finish them. This summer looks to be a good summer I hope....to get some of the projects done.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Are the hoops original? I thought Star had the Slingy-copy stick savers as standard... Nice looking kit though! Well done.

I've had a Pearl kit with the stick savers and possibly a Star snare too. But most have standard TF hoops from my experience

Yeah - we all are pretty aware of the features of MIJ - what makes it a Star, what makes it a Pearl, etc.....and we have talked alot about the shells, # of lugs, all kinds of things - but I think the hoops is one variable that we have not documented very well - yet.
