so, lets say you have a nice and rare vintage drumset like a gretsch round badge bop kit but it has a a really horrible wrap condition. If you
rewrap it, would it be worth less than with the original but bad condition wrap?

I would restore the wrap if possible. I bought a Tama Swingstar that was painted black. The wrap was in bad shape, with cracks everywhere I did my best to keep the original finish and I'm not disapointed. Let me show you the before and after.

Just how bad are we talking here, lets see it please.
Yes, photos. Generally I would say if you plan on keeping it for a long long time do with it what pleases you. If you can see yourself selling it in the next few years leave it alone and let someone make that decision.
I don't think the wrap or not wrap question is useful to ask generally, because there are so many variables involved. But I'd feel comfortable recommending leaving a bop kit as it is in almost every case.

thanks for the replies. I have bought a Sonor Phonic Bopkit with white wrap. The wrap in bad shape but i think i will try to save what i can! Will take me untill the weekend till i can make some pictures. But I am interested what you guys think of the wrap and if it could get be brought back to live!

Hi. I'm glad I could make you believe that it is possible to rescue wraps that are in bad shape like mine. I hope you understood that I removed all the paint. The blue finish is the original, it was covered by paint.

I purchased this Rogers Londoner kit some years back. Got it for cheap, due to the bad cracking of the wrap and even some missing pieces. I didn't feel very bad doing a complete re-wrap, since it wasn't a rare finish!
