While in Austin the last couple of days I did a search on Craigs and found a 1970 Ludwig Jazz kit for $200. Champaign Sparkle...out in the garage working on it now!!
He Shoots He Scores!!!

70 - Ludwig Champagne Sparkle - 20, 12, 14
70 - Ludwig Champagne Sparkle - 22 (need), 13, 16
And some others..
You Rascal!!
Nice score... hope to see it soon...
Why does stuff like that never happen in Germany?! Looking forward to the set, i have a 1960s super classic in that lovely color :-)
Tom came out looking really nice...My son is pulling apart the floor tom now.
I look and look and look for these I just got lucky. My son was in Austin recording and I was bored so I just got on craigs and badabing. When I called I thought for sure they would be gone already but the guy said "I have a ton of messages but you're the first person I've actually talked to." I bummed a car from one of the guys at the studio and took off like a wild man to go and get them.
We have been looking for a kit like this for my son to gig with. We've been using a set of duco Slingerland 58's with no floor tom so having a floor tom will be nice.
The only other super score we've gotten is a 58 Krupa kit that had the Radio King and vintage Zildjian's with it for $600 and the guy tossed in a Rogers Banner snare that was cherry too. I found the kit in Ohio on Craigs..so I think you just have to look a bit...
Ok...back to work...
PS: I'm not trying to make it a museum piece...just a nice looking player.

So how about some pics? Maybe some before and afters. Great find! Congrats.
Yeah... pics are needed. Nothing beats my Champagne sparkle Kent kit... until you post pics of the Luddys!!!
Come on now, don't tease. Before and after if you please.
Well I did a bad thing...I got started on everything before I took a pic...doh!!!
I will get a pic of the bass drum apart..Working on it now, I just finished wet sanding out a cig burn mark, thank god there was only one..
Quick question for you Ludwig guys. The floor tom has some straight legs with a some sort of "hex" stopper. Are these the original legs, or should the legs be the bent ones?
Also, this is a pointy badge kit and of course the corners had been snagged and bent, I was able to get the badges un-bent but it looks like they need to be either glued or double sided taped. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Mike

I use the red double sided tape that usually accompanies new drum wrap. It works great for these little twiddly bit jobs. It's very thin and does not cause the item to appear raised above the surface. Just use dental floss to remove the badge (after you carefully remove the grommet). Spend some time smoothing the badge. Cut the tape to fit. Place the badge on the drum and stick it. Then grommet it back. It works fine and will stay put for years and years.
