If anyone can offer any help and advice I would greatly appreciate it.

You can see a fully complete and working strainer in Pic #1

Pic # 2 is my own busted strainer.

Thanks for looking.

Is this thing FUBAR? Where am I going to find a replacement? This is the part of vintage drum collecting that I dislike. Sourcing parts! Any modern replacements that fit the factory holes? I don't care if it's parallel or standard strainer and butt. Such a waste of a 6.5 x 14 brass shell. Can't play it! :)

I don't think It's FUBAR. I'll see if I can find the schematics for that particular strainer. It looks to be a simple fix, if I can figure out exactly what needs to be replaced. Could you take a detailed photo of it off of the drum?

Hi, thanks for the reply. I actually don't have this snare at the moment. It's on route to me now and I should have it within the next few days. The photo was the only one provided by the seller. I'll be sure to post more detailed photos as soon as it arrives. I'm not familiar with this snare mechanism. I'll let you know exactly what's wrong when it arrives. Cheers.

That looks to be a part that a competent home machinist could make in an hour or two.

I was thinking the very same thing. It seems like a simple thing to replicate. I have the know-how, but I don't have the tools. I'll post some better photos when it arrives. Cheers.

OK, I'm back with some photos of the snare. It just arrived the other day after a some confusion with the seller and a bit of a delay. So here's what I'm working with - A nice brass drum that is unplayable as a snare drum with a strainer that is missing some components.

Any help appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

Hey Jer, please see the above photos of the strainer. Any advise would be helpful. What about a more readily available modern replacement or perhaps a Ludwig strainer?

Thanks,

Al

Thanks so much. This is a genius idea, but unfortunately the Pearl strainer is uses two horizontal bolts instead of the more common vertical hole spacing.
