When it comes to larger holes, I have a shell had some damage that I picked up just so I could cut patches out of it. This way it will have the proper curve in the plug piece as well as the grain is in the right direction. jason

You couldn't have provided this tip at a better time. I have a Rogers tom on which someone had replaced the original swivo mount with the later Big R Memriloc mount, leaving a big, gaping hole. I was thinking about all the shaping and sanding that was going to be necessary by plugging it with a dowel slice, but your idea of a curved patch makes perfect sense.
Your Psych Red restoration was fantastic. Thanks for sharing all those resto tips including the wet sanding and the use of the Sharpie. Great results speak for themselves.
