Pysch red downbeat...

So I've been really busy with life lately and haven't got to work as fast as I've wanted to on these. However i do have some progress with a couple of little things. The 12 inch tom is looking pretty decent. I still need to decide what I'm gonna do with it. I stripped the white off as I don't believe it was original as the other two seem to be. As i started removing the badly flaking white, there appeared to be be some clear over the maple. I don't really believe Ludwig would've painted white over an already clear interior. I also started to lightly bring some color back to the tom itself. It won't be unfaded as I can't bring all the color back 100%. But i can bring some of the color back with a couple of tricks. There was also a few cracks on the tom that i had to address. I think I've managed to repair and blend the issues fairly well almost to the point of not being able to see them. It's been meticulous.

So that last pic is during the process that I bring some of the color back. Notice the green on the bottom of the tom verses just towards the top where it is white. These next few pics are as it gets better color.

An overall pic with the color about where it can get. Still faded but not nearly as bad.

So i jumped to the bass drum to take a beak from the little tom. I still got to get the nice shine back on the twelve and fix a couple spots. But the bass was yelling at me from across the room. More like like screaming in pain but anyway. It's the worst of the three and needs some serious attention that i may or may not be able to remedy. Lots of cracks in the wrap and a large hole in the center where someone evidently really early on added a double tom mount. Most of the cracks iv'e sealed and smoothed over but haven't color blended yet. It's a slow process.lol. I've filled the 4 little holes on the top that hold the mount on. If you're familiar with ludwig double mounts, you'll know where to look. It actually blended real well and I haven't even finished yet. I also still need to attack the large hole still. But I figured small victories first.lol.

Lets see if I can get these a bit bigger... Also, that white spot was large spot of missing wrap that happened from tom rash. I'll get better pics of that as soon as I progress past it.

Well, I couldn't get it bigger so...You get the point. I'll be working on it a little more diligently as I'd like to maybe have it done and ready to sell by the time the hollywood show comes around. I'm not big on little kits and I already have my fathers psych red kit. It has normal sizes which i like more.

Alright! I'm on the home stretch here. I brought back some of the greens. The reds and blues weren't too bad so I left them for the most part. I don't want to overdo the restoration. It is a players kit since it had the holes drilled in it. There was some pretty gnarly cracks that i've taken care of and only a couple are noticeable. And they don't stand out all that much. The bass drum being the worst of the two rough drums took the most work. The patch came out decent and the blend worked out alright. Overall i'm fairly happy with it. Next came putting an industrial clear coat on it. This is to protect the color that's been brought back as well bring out the depth of the colors that are there. I have no idea what order the pics are gonna come through so, they may be scattered from different times.
