Looking for input on a 10 lug snare I.D.

Hello drum folk

I am considering this 10 lug snare

and am stumped trying to figure what it is

Here is the problem

The throw and internal muffler knob look identical to the ones on the snare drums to both my Tempro and Coronet drum kits

which I understand to be early 70's Pearl made

To me the shell and lugs look like a Pearl made stuff also

Okay so I also have a few Majestic kits

It was always my understanding that Majestic drums are Star made

Did someone at some point put a random Majestic badge on a Pearl made drum?

I put the question to my seller ..he is not the original owner but thinks strongly that the badge is original to the drum

I am not totally sure, but to me, the grommet looks like a newer style

than what would normally be found with that badge

On the other hand the two Majestic snare drums I have are both wooden drums

the whole drum looks to be at least a few years newer vintage than does the badge

I like the drum and will most likely buy it no matter what

But I thought some of you other drum peeps may weigh in

I say "nice drum with a random "badge slap"

Looks like it might be a rare MIJ snare in my honest opinion. You don't come across many that have an adjustable strainer. But after research I found this snare on this forum before. Maybe Majestic was made by Pearl not Tama?

It's a no-brainer = snag that puppy up fast if the price is right. I have that exact snare but I have considerable pitting. Then I have another, identical, with no badge.

They sound great, get very sensitive. Just great snares.

Despite Majestic Deluxe being a Star kit, I believe this was made by Pearl, for obvious reasons.

Thanks guys I bought the snare

But the questions as to origin still remain

I know later on in the stencil making

Star fell out and Pearl continued on

On wooden snares there was an obvious change in the badges

For example Stewart went from a metal badge while being made by Star

to a thin foil badge once Pearl took over

while it is true in my experience that I have never seen this metal old school badge on a Pearl made drum

I do not recall ever seeing the above mentioned foil badge on a chrome snare either

Please keep the input coming ..on this Thanks Kenwood

Can't find it right now but this question/issue came up in another thread & Ralf got into the discussion. If I recall correctly he believed that Star made it & I disagreed.

I believe that the American retailer had legal right to use the badge on anything & separately outsourced the snare to Pearl & supplied them with the badges or specs/design/blueprints of the badge. Or the retailer could have installed all the badges at the store himself? Not sure how it all went down but I stand firm that Pearl made that snare.

John I agree with you whole heartedly

But yet we have two identical examples (yours and mine)

of an overlap between two distinct builders in the evolution of the Japanese stencil drums

I wish someone who may have been involved with the distribution

could tell us just where and when these badges get applied and by who

I know generally it was done by the musical instrument distributors

at the behest of the various retailers ..but beyond that is where I would like to be

I was thinking "badge slap" by a less knowledgeable previous owner

Viewing your drum shot that idea straight to hell

Here are 2 Majestic snare drums from my collection. Each has the same badge and grommet. I'm not really sure about your badge and grommet, but the grommet doesn't look original. An inside view might be more revealing.
