My First Slingerland Kit

Thanks everyone for your words of encouragement. I really love this kit so far. Working with the bass drum to get it sounding right. I will probably replace the original batter head on the bass. It's nice to have the original in such great condition but it's just not doing it for me.

My dilemma though is finding the right Slingerland snare to accompany this kit. A matching snare was not offered when this kit sold in the 1970s I believe. I want a wood snare but not sure what to get.

OK, let's go shopping. I'd welcome any suggestions. Thanks very much :)

The original Bd batter would surely be a little over stretched by now.. an Emad or some other thicker head seems to work for me..

Cheers

Just thought I'd bump this up as, ya know when you get that urge to sell a kit you haven't used in a while? That is until you take it out of a closet and begin playing and it you're blown away at how great it sounds? And you regret even thinking of selling or trading it? My Slingies did just that last evening. I honored her by taking a slightly sexier photo below. Forgive me... Best value around for vintage drums still...

Nice kit I have one the same in WMP, sounds fantastic!

As for the snare a GK sound king 5x14 would suit them to a tee.

Enjoy your "new" kit man.

Thanks for the comments. Yeah I love this kit. Wonder how your 1994 compares with the older vintages, soundwise that is.

My 1994 kit is from the HSS era and is the Artist Classic series, with 5-ply maple/mahogany shells and no re-rings. They have fairly sharp 45-degree edges, so give a more modern sound. The shells are not undersized at all, so head fitment, especially with wrapped shells, is an issue. I found that Evans Level 360 heads fit great!

I've got the kit wrapped in a "Spirit of America" design. Really looked nice at my 4th of July gig!

Hello all. Bumping my original post. Sadly I am looking to sell my beloved Slingerland kit. It is circa mid 1970s. It had only one owner prior to myself. Amazing condition and ready for world. I am not sure of the price yet but I would rather not ship it. Thanks. I'll get around to posting it on the fr sale section.

Good luck with the sale... (some of these earlier members comments jolt the memory) .

Cheers
