French drum? military? help with identification please!

Hi there, new to this forum so I trust this is the right place to post this. I recently came across and interesting and quite beautiful object which is French, possibly military, I'm guessing mid C20th and I think an instrument of percussion? I've attached some pictures and the manufacturer on the back is engraved P DESLAURIER 25 Rue Michel-le Comte PARIS.

It's approx. 12cm in diameter and consists of three layers - a leather(?) cover, a metal ring middle layer and a wooden base - there is also a leather strap and buckle - the strap has the name Francis Baton Batteur written on it...any ideas or advice gratefully received!

My guess late 1930's and as stated a practice pad. No idea what it is worth. Not finding anything for Francis Baton Batteur.

Your assumption is probably about right... Mid 20th century...

Batteur in French means "drummer" so that is the blokes name - Francis Baton Drummer

Well, working backwards:

Batteur can be a drummer or a drum

Baton is a stick

And Francis is some guy who had a stick practice pad.

Ah but a drumstick is a "baguette" - hence the long loaf of bread given this name too..

I think a baton is an orchestral conductor's thing

Definitely a "strap on" practice pad. The appearance of the grain on the natural skin pad suggests pig skin; possibly goat skin.
