Ah but a drumstick is a "baguette" - hence the long loaf of bread given this name too..I think a baton is an orchestral conductor's thing

Had forgotten about "Baguette" for "Stick". (Why am I suddenly hungry.)

Still a baton is a stick, as is a pilon and I don't see what a conductor would want with this pad.

With a bit of undergrad french I'm scarcely guessing.It may be time to get me to the drummerie.

Definitely a "strap on" practice pad. The appearance of the grain on the natural skin pad suggests pig skin; possibly goat skin.
