Yamaha D22 missing a limb

I bought this set for the snare drum which turned out to be a very rare COB Premier 2000 from the very start of production. I'm working on that at the moment. But I've always had a soft spot for these old Yamaha kits so was quite happy to get them even though the floor tom is missing. I paid about $150 for everything and the hats turned out to be 14" Paiste 602s, the 18" ride is a 50s Zildjian A, there was a 60s 8" paper thin splash and case full of old hardware.

The kit was filthy and there was a lot of rust but I decided to clean it up and use it as a gigging kit. I have to say, every time i work on one of these old Yamaha kits I'm reminded just how well made they are. Even the screws that attach the lugs to the shell are better quality than most.

The FT is a Tama Swingstar and works ok until I find a correct replacement (which may be never).

I gigged it last night and I'll be gigging it again tonight. It's that good.

Just finding ANY Yamaha drum from that era is tough. And their wraps are unique, like the yellow tiger stripe. Nice job on the resto-

I actually know a guy here that has an orphan 14 FT in this finish but I know he uses it as part of his studio recording kit so I doubt he'll part with it. I will ask of course. Still, as it is right now, it makes a great gigging kit

There is what looks to be a 13" tom in that color on Ebay right now-I can't seem to be able to upload it.

Thanks T. But apart from the fact I'm in New Zealand where the currency has recently taken a slide against the US$ and the shipping will be steep too, I can't see me using a 13". It is odd, however, that my kit is a 22" BD with a 12" tom and a single rail mount (that was moved to the center many years ago). A catalog kit would have a 13" tom on a single rack tom set up with a 22. I really like the 12" though.

I would ask him to trade his floor for your Tama floor.. Those Zola coat era Tama Swingstars are great for recording in the studio.. I know because i had a set and sold it like an imbecile.. Good luck !
