I think T. Bruce is mistaken and those Coronet shells are the particle board/lauan jobs from the NC series. The pics in the article do not look like phenolic at all and I don't think they sound like it either.
I agree that those shells do not look like any of the Presidents that I have. Supposedly phenolic is made out of different materials. (Didn't you teach me that Floyd?)

Apparently the Presidents are made from plastic fibers and the resins. Maybe they tried wood fibers, cotton or something else on those Coronets. I hope for John's sake they are!!
Here's a few MIJ kits I've restored & flipped. The tiger pearl Bollero was one that I should have kept for myself, but you know how that goes...The blue sparkle Bollero had a metric 21 5/8" kick drum, so I had to use spacers under the lugs & replace the rims with 22" rims. The BDP Stewart kit was purchased because it came with a COB Powertone & one of the pics is a promo shot of 2 clown/drummer friends of mine playing this kit mashed with a Premier kit that also passed through my hands. The Coronet I got for cheap & gigged it a few times for kicks. What I'm craving right now is Phenolic, fibreglass or wood/fibreglass Pearls. This thread didn't help that cause any...

Here are the ones I still own. The blue one is special, bought it on the day of my dads funeral, I know sounds stupid but the service was short and private. After lunch the family visited for a while then broke up. I needed something to clear my mind and I knew dad would want me to go look at these drums, so I did, and bought them.
The Pearl Presidents finish kit - beautiful - but a question leaps to mind: my old Maxwin had the same hexagonal tom arms and mounts with the single tension rod in the ball & socket joint as your Pearl kit pictured, but mine only lasted about twelve minutes! I had to replace them with generic Pearl tom mounts and arms. Does your kit get a lot of use? It does look in much better nick than mine ever was, but that single tension rod had a lot to cope with. Does yours ever slip or drop? Mine certainly did...
Late to the party. All Pearl. Blue is fiberglass. The rest are Presidents. All in various stages of being put back to original... or near, usable original. Thanks to all on the forum who have helped as I've been reassembling. :)
Great kits !! Thanks for the pics.

Did you laminate the Coronets? You must have laminated the Coronets.....tell us you laminated the Coronets. :)Mitch
I got 'em that way! Worst wrap job ever, but they were so cheap I couldn't help buying them. They kinda reminded me of the panelling on the family station wagon back in the day.
