What is that red wrap called? I like!
This is the Display Your MIJ Drums Thread
Hello tris66,
I have no idea what the wrap is called
but I wish I knew
They came from Canada and took more than a month to arrive
I just got the snare drum last week which was sent separate of the other drums
the original strainer was missing but I had the exact replacement here in the boneyard
Earlier this week I found this heavily used and abused Pearl stencil kit
out in Piscataway New Jersey
just the bass drum, mounted tom, and floor tom
Aside from being rusty and absolutely filthy
they also have some fixable damage, plenty of missing parts, and some non original mods
I do not know what they call this color either but they look super duper cool
They came with this sweet tigers eye Zim Gar snare
and this Tama rockstar shell pack all eight drums cost me 140.00
Looks to be Red Oyster from the 73' catalogue http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/images/finishes/pearl/pearl_catalog_1973_finishes.jpg
and the Coronet would be Red Oyster Pearl http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/images/my_collection/literature/pearl/1969-pearl-catalog-15.jpg
That's a lotta red oysters!Excited

Hello funkypoodlle ,
Thanks for posting those catalogue pages
The color sample looks spot on for the Coronets
on the older kit
there must be some fading or perhaps just the way the sunlight is hitting it in the photo
but the bass drum seems to have some golden streaks in it
while the mounted tom and floor tom match the catalogue chart pretty well
The drums are still out in Jersey until I can arrange a meet with my friend out there
so for now, all I have are these seller's pics
Yeah on the bass it is most likely fading
same deal on both of the blue oyster pearl kits I have
There is very little blue as it has faded to silver/grey
and they appear more greenish than anything else
none the less I like them as they are

I think that is the wood showing through the wrap. Looks pretty neat anyway...
Happy for you on your sky blue purchase - they look pretty neat too. :)
Mitch
Hello Mitch,
Hmmmm? the wood showing through
That is very likely the case ..I had not thought of that
Thanks on the Blue Oyster Pearl kits
They have been around for a while now
The Zim Gars are the kit that came in with a huge S-shaped crack in the floor tom wrap
at the time you and I discussed repair options
Beautiful drums fellas!! I`m sure there are more out there!!
Cheers
