Not trying to steal any thunder from the Display your MIJs thread....
I just watch one of my vids - and I am playing a Star snare - and it got me thinking.
What have you done to modify your vintage MIJs? There are many discussions on here regarding treatment of the interiors. Aside from staining, polyurathane, etc. - they can be simply painted - as many drum manufacturers have been known to do. Re-rings could be installed. Edge work??
Why am I asking? Well, in my vid, my Star snare sounds cheap. Could different heads help? I would hate to deviate from the standard that I love and believe is best for all snares.....Remo Coated Ambassadors.
Actual playing starts at around 3:45. Much narration and gear review preceding.....

What say you - what have you done to modify the sound of your vintage MIJs and how did it change the sound? I am wondering specifically about the snares - but do expect some discussion of other drums as well.
Thanks in advance for your input.
