For those interested. I finished the fir stave drum last weekend and played it in a band rehearsal yesterday. With a simple coated ambassador, dito hazy and a 20 strand snare wire. O boy.... does it sound goooood!

Without muffling the sound is not really fat (though that might change with some muffling or an emperor head), but it is extremely warm and woody. It has some nice bright over tones. On top of that it is louder than expected with 5 mm. thin soft wood. Very responsive and impossible to choke (I hit it extremely hard with a 2b stick, it responded).

Ownly downside is a limited tuning range. I expected it to be comfortabl;e in a low tuning, but that's not the case. Up uintill now I could only find one sweet spot, medium pitch.
