Pre-serial Supraphonic question.

Loading...

I have a pre-serial supraphonic with crimped snare beds. The drum weigh 4070g (10,90lb). The shell seems a SINGLE piece (i can't see weldings)

Is it correct for a COB supra?

considering the weight it sounds correct.

i have an identical drum, but can see the weld not really from the inside, but from the outside if you really look for it. does the drum have the "double-bent-inwards" bearing edges? that should be another hint... do ya have pics?

No, there is an ink stamp on the inside of the shell, of which you can partly read the word snare......what does the whole ink stamp read?

I think he took the picture through the reso head, that's still on the drum.

yep, if you look closely you can see other parts of the remo logo.... i didn't see that at first either.

@ myoldsnares: i'll take pics of the inside of my snare later today, so you can compare!!

so, here it goes....

i have attached 2 pics of my 1960 Super400 (COB Supra). on the one pic you can see the wealded seam from the outside. you have to look really close to see it, but it's visible.

on the other pic you see the seem from the inside and you can kind of see the rolled bearing edges (question to the other ludwig experts: is there another word for that?)

you can see that the bearings are not only bent towards the inside of the shell, but also then are bent another time towards the shell itself. if you get hold of a later supra or acro try to compare and you'll see the difference.

Also, does COB pit out like the usual chrome over aluminum? Might be another

hint that you have brass under the chrome.
