Nice score! I agree with others here that 15" hollow ink hats are great. Sadly I sold mine...

Mlayton, I'm playing a similar set up with a 40's stamp/trans-stamp 15" combo and they really work nice for me, sometimes a matched weight set and sometimes a heavier bottom trans-stamp. 15's just work for me.

robyn - playing around with new cymbals, especially good ones, is a pure blast, gal! Hope you're enjoying your new hats as much as I'm enjoying mine.

Nice job!

Was watching that auction also as I'm extremely addicted to shopgoodwill.com after

scoring my Turkish K among other items from a Denver Goodwill auction last fall :D

I know what you mean by getting burned, just bought a clunker Ludwig snare from Goodwill and now there is a nicer version of the same thing again on auction.

But my medium light 50's Turkish K is still making up for any past and future burns :D

Found it!!

hope you dont mind if i show mine off in your thread John.

We had band practice last nite so i put them on the practice kit

and let our drummer give them a go. they sounded great. Guy tried to

walk off with them but i stopped him b4 he could get to the door, which

lead me to believe he really liked them.

anyway, heres my new beats....

From Purdie Shuffle

Moonweasel - As for 'playability' it all depends on what sound you're going for/looking for. I mentioned earlier that the 15's are significantly louder and have a more pronounced 'chick' than my lighter, smaller Mehmet 14" Jazz hats. I can hear the hats better with the 15's. There is more 'meat' to them than smaller cymbals and I'm sure that contributes to the sound they produce. I've only owned one set of 13's and that was so long ago, I almost forget what they sounded like! Hopefully one of the boys will chime in and give you better feedback than I can.John

Thank you John!

Second novice question, it seems like the height of separation one sets between the hats (with the pedal released) could also affect the volume of the "chic" sound. Is there an "average" distance people usually set them apart, or is it totally subjective or tied to the type of music? Thanks (sorry if this is a thread hijack).

No hi-jack... again, it all depends on the sound you're going for and ergonomics, what 'feels good' to you as you play. For myself I don't like a lot of distance between the cymbals, an inch, or a little better, is good enough.

Thanks! I'll try one inch the next time I get a chance to just to see what you mean.
