John I think Remo has 11" heads. Plus other odd sizes. I tried to navigate this page but LOL my old Dell doesn't like it much. Maybe you can. If not maybe a calfskin head from Matt?

Would be cool to see your kit in the W&A book! Wow!!

Awesome!!

Anthony is the man!! He handles all my vintage W&A resto projects I'm not equipped to handle. (Trueing bearing edges, rewraps, etc)

Too bad about the claw... I thought that would be a tough one to find.

I just found an 11" Remo Coated Amb on eBay. Evans makes them too. If you don't mind waiting... your local music store should be able to order any type of 11" head you want.

There is a remo 11" on ebay right now. Seller has two at 17 bucks each plus shipping. There is also an 11" calf head on ebay for lighter side of 50 bucks.

I got some 11" coated ambassadors from drumfactory.

In stock Remo item. Just checked the site, they are about $13.00.

But they are out I think.

FYI, other Remo sizes I just saw on their site were: 9 5/8", 11 7/8" and 16 5/16".

I did not know they had those. Cool.

Hey John, it looks like you need to drill 2 holes to mount those lugs.

I see a lower nut and a screw head upper.

This hardware is so different, in a very good way.

Scott, Mike - Thanks to a lead from Mike Layton, I bought one at Amazon.com

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002GFSK4"]Amazon.com: Remo BE-0111-00 11-Inch Emperor Drum Head, Coated: Musical Instruments@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31T3txQtlFL.@@AMEPARAM@@31T3txQtlFL[/ame]

Scott - Yep! Two screw sized holes for each lug, but the outside foot-print of the lug itself is very small. Something like 3/4" from top to bottom. I've been trying to avoid talking about how these drums sound because I wanted to save that kind of review for the end and because up to this point, nobody has asked. I sat down today and spent a little time fine tuning the two floor toms to each other. When I finally dialed them in, the sound that came out of them knocked my socks off. You're familiar with the distinctive, thundering, full-throated resonant tom sounds you hear on old big-band recordings? Well, I had that sound blowing in my face as I was wailing away on them like Gene Krupa on crack! These are wonderful, loud, warm, FAT, resonant drums. I can't wait to put this mofo together and just play until I run out of gas.

Here's a quick sound-file I made of the floor toms.

The camera's mic is not great, it's ok, but not great. I picked up a lot of echo in the basement and one of my snare drums was buzzing away sympathetically in the mix there. You can hear the toms ok though. They're deep, warm and LOUD! I wanted to include this for you because you don't ever get to hear the drums that are being worked on in restoration threads. I want to be the first... enjoy 'actually hearing' the drums you've been seeing. :D

Oh they sound just beautifull amazing, and two of em! I haven't actually got a floor Tom that I'm happy with. These W/A toms just sound perfect, cutting, warm, deep, resonant. I do wish we could hear more examples of vintage drums on here as well. Can't wait to hear rest of the kit. See you in a bit john and nice playing to.

I just noodled on the toms so you could get an opportunity to hear how they sound. The toms tuned up easily and they have a terrific bottom-end and projection. The attack and tone on the 16" is perfect as is and the 14" really growls when you hear it in-person. I'm loving them. The bass drum is a real BOOMER! Can't wait to play them all together. I'll record and include another sound-file in the thread when the kit is completed.

Nice John those toms sound great. I've never played or heard tacked head toms. Very nice man I really like them! I was hoping you'd post a vid when they are finished. Cool beans man! I was so nervous during pickup and transport I didn't really check them out much. Just wrapped them up and made sure they were comfy for the ride. :o
