Slingerland Concert Hall snare

Does this snare look kosher???

The lugs seem off-centered....

In our literature, the Concert Hall series has six double-ended lugs, not eight as this one does.

It's on Ebay, listed as date stamped '64, I contacted the seller as to dimensions earlier, he said it is a Concert Hall 8x15, and then I noticed the appearance of the off-centered lugs. Also, in our literature, the Concert Hall series has six double-ended lugs, not eight as this one does.

If the lugs are off-centered, I have an idea of what's going on here, but I would like some input from you guys/gals first.

Thanks!!!

It appears that the snare butt (tee hee) and the strainer might be off center...or the beds. I know the butt (tee hee) is for sure.

Maybe if you had a shot of the inside. Might tell the tale.

From Ludwig-dude

Cut down marching drum for sure......

That's what I'm thinking as well...

Here's an interior shot....not very revealing, but looks like re-rings are there...

I questioned the seller about the number of lugs, his reply to the dimensions of the drum earlier took about 10 minutes, but no reply for 2 hours now about the lugs......

Actually it looks like a counterfeit job now to me........Keller vintage maple shell maybe where someone botched the holes while drilling?

Could be, Ludwig-dude, I'm such a novice when it comes to this stuff, I just know it looks suspect, but don't really know enough to get specific with a certainty.

This same seller has another auction that doesn't jive with me either, a 60's Slingy set in Red Tiger Pearl with a bass drum without T-handles, just regular tension rods.... not a single picture with all the drums in one pic .... drums partially wrapped in plastic.... claims a NOS condition ...... two ride toms, but a single-ride mount.... says he has had the set for 12 years, but never set it up...

Just weird, little details that say... HUH? to me, and I don't even know that much......

Why would someone bother to counterfeit of all things this drum?

I just think that if I was going to bother to counterfeit something- it would be something that would really bring me a lot of cash- a mid 60's blue sparkle 8x15 slingerland snare- does not really come to mind- and if I would think that someone if they were to bother with an 8x15 would counterfeit a concert king.

I think you would spend more money counterfeiting that drum than it would bring- factoring the mint condition parts and virtually NOS heads- plus the fact that keller does not even seem to make a 15" shell in the vintage series, and the seller would have had to have it custom made.

A couple of things bother me about this drum and seller......not only are the lugs all off center on the drum and the throw off and butt not centered, but the badge's grommet is chrome, the badge is black and gold. Shouldn't the grommet be brass colored as well? Also, weren't the interiors of slingys painted the chocolate milkshake color by this time and not natural maple?

As far as the seller.....they have good feedback, but look at a few of the "original condition" drums that they have sold.....there's something slightly off or wrong with all of them......something tells me these are cobbled up drums from parts, or counterfeits to try and make a quick buck. Either way, something fishy there....

My take is this:

I have no idea if it's original or not. I wouldn't buy it BECAUSE the snare strainer and butt are off. That's going to make it tougher (but not impossible) to adjust. I wouldn't knowingly purchase a snare with bad snare beds or bad snare hardware. It's a variable that is too touchy to mess with right out of the gate.

That's my take.
