All of the 60's black/gold badged drums I have seen have a steel grommet, and the brown milk paint appeared on 1966-1970 drums, and this drum is dated 1964.

Here's the reply about the number of lugs......

"Yes, you're correct! I just rechecked my catalogs, the Concert Hall Model did have only 6 double-ended lugs and the Deluxe Concert King and Standard Concert Model had 16 lugs - this one is clearly an 8 lug. Looks like another drum from Slingerland outside the context of the catalog. I guess we shouldn't be surprised - all the drum manufactures did it back then. Good observation."

Cut down marching drum for sure......

How can you say for sure??? Pretty intense accusation, I think...

I think the drum looks legit. If it were cut down, you'd have to cut down to and bottm edges, re-glue the re-rings and re-cut snare beds. And if they were re-cut, why would anyone do it off center?

Also, an 8 x 15" snare doesn't usually sell for that much more than a marcher anyway, so what would be the point.

AND...it's REAL COMMON for slingerland snare beds or strainer and butt to be mounted slightly off center. Slingerland did that all the time, and sent the stuff out anyway.

So, at least on first glance, the drum seems real and OK for what it is...

Perhaps the seller got burned, and is passing it on?

The lugs still look off center, top to bottom to me.

Maybe it's just me
