Vintage W&A Kit Restoration

Looks real nice John! It will be interesting to see how that mount looks/works.

The ''mount'' is just a nickel over brass heavy metal strap that wraps around the middle of the drum. The metal strap -kills- the drum! I left it off when I put it back together because the drum sounds great without it. With the strap on, the drum sounds flat, like cardboard, dead. The second I took the strap off, all of a sudden the drum opened up and resonated like a SOB.

So no strap mount. I'll have to find a basket, or stand for it.

And thanks, Jerry for the support and encouragement.

Amigo...damn fine work, as always. I don't recall the last time a drum set restoration came around that had so many of us jealous SOB's interested! This W&A kit is "The most interesting drum set in the world"! Can't wait to see pics of her all set up.

Aaron - Thank you. I've been getting to play them one at a time as I finish the individual pieces. So far, each drum sounds great and I can't wait to hear them all together. I'm going to need a floor tom basket, or mount of some kind for the 14". The 13" I can mount on a snare stand and the 16" already has a kick-ass basket that I've been waiting to show off. I saved it for later because the floor tom basket is a thing of engineering beauty, wait till you see it. Anyway, I need something to hold the 14". If you (or anybody else) has any leads or suggestions, I'm all ears.

Stay tuned, more to come...

Aw come on. Let us see the 16 basket.

I have one for a 16. 40's I think, but mine is chrome.

Maybe it was re-plated.

"what's in the basket?"

John, drums are coming out really nice. I totally get the problem with the band around the toms choking the shell, but, I would like to see the kit set up with the original mounts, bands, whatever. Just set it up and take a few pics, then go with the stand or basket. Of course, this is after all drums and hardware are restored. I think myself and a bunch of other guys would like seeing the kit set up as it was designed originally.

Keep up the good work!

Thank you!
