Vintage W&A Kit Restoration

From 3-ply_guy

I go through 20 frickin' pages of a thread that is new to me and there is not a final shot of the drum kit complete ??? Seriously ???? The last post is from 2011 ??John you may not remember me but I sent you a boatload of silver dot heads for a vistalite kit....

3 ply!

Have a CLOSER look here. The last post was from TODAY, 12/19/2014. The year 2011 was when jccabinets joined the forum! As to no complete kit pics, well... the set isn't finished yet! Enjoy!

Personally, I'm enjoying the progression of this story. I really can't wait to see the completed kit though.

TommyP - You da man!

3-ply - I started rehabbing this great old kit two weeks ago. So far, I have completed the snare drum, a 28" twelve lug bass drum and 14" floor tom. If you go back to page one and check out the photos of the original condition of the drums and then see what I've been able to accomplish with them in such a short time, I think you'll whistle a different tune.

Waiting on a calf head guys... as soon as it arrives I'll go to work on the 16". I'll post up shots of the tom cradle for Scott shortly. 3-ply... start the clock, time me on this one. If it takes too long you have my permission to give me thirty lashes with a wet noodle.

Jeff - I mentioned that I never received the metal strap for the bass drum that holds the toms. I asked Gus about it and he doesn't think he has it anymore. I'll have to get creative about how I mount the 13" and the 14" neither of which have tom holders, just the strap on the drum that the tom holder goes into. The metal straps -kill- the drums. I won't be putting them back on. I will keep them with the kit so all the original parts are there, but without the bass drum strap, they are useless anyway. I need a tom cradle for the 14". I'm keeping my eyes open for one. If you spot one, give me a heads up please.

:D

Lets give 3ply a break. After all who among us hasn't caught himself wondering "what are these knuckle heads up to now?" only to realize that we were temporarily observing from a parallel universe, followed by a Duh! ?:D

Just subscribe to the thread 3ply. I've seen this kit up close and personal and it'll be worth the time spent. John is doing the drums justice!

Mick - No need to run defense bro... (TommyP is on the job!) this cat 3-ply is just reading the 'member join dates' on the right instead of the 'actual posting dates' on the left. Easy mistake.

Moving on...

Scott - All,

Here are a couple of shots of the floor tom cradle. It is a thing of beauty. I have seen a few old-school tom cradles in the past, but they were always simple creations made from bent pieces of bar stock that are bolted in the middle to form the cradle. This thing looks like a snare basket on top of a solid frame structure with rolling casters! (see photos)

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, these drums are well-built. I'm just waiting on the calf head to arrive for the 16 so I can start in on it. Me and my sore hands are enjoying the break in the action for now. I'll be back soon with the 16"

Working on it...

Yes, it's very cool, the thing folds up so it's easy to transport. I wish I could find one for the 14". If you see one somewhere give me a heads up!

Lj - I need another one! It would be nice to run the 14", 16" (2-down) together on the floor. The buggers are near impossible to find, especially a cradle for a 14". Mission impossible...
