New member here. I, too, am a Mod Orange fan. In April 1969, my dad bought me a Ludwig Hollywood kit, brand new, in Black Oyster Pearl. There was a Mod Orange kit in the showroom window that I drooled over, but the floor manager offered a better deal on the BOP kit. So, hey, I loved BOP from Ringo, and anything with a Ludwig badge on it was going to be just fine with me. But I never forgot the Mod Orange kit.
Because a very nice vintage Ludwig kit in Mod Orange is so hard to find, especially one with no fading or other color change, I decided to buy a reissue from Ludwig in 2006 just before it was discontinued. Though the reissue wrap, like the "bowling ball" wraps of the 70's, lacks the 3-dimensional depth and sheen of the original oyster pearls, the colors are satisfying and women especially comment on the drums at gigs. My wife encouraged me to get Mod Orange when I showed her the color chart. Like has been stated in an earlier post, one either loves it or hates it, and the reissue definitely did not generate much interest from buyers it would seem.
Here are 2 pics of my kit for comparison to the vintage Mod Orange. Thought that might be interesting to some. As can be seen from the pics, yellow stage lights surely brings out the original Mod Orange hue.
